ReplyDeleteAre these all romance novels? I'm not into those, I'd prefer historical fiction. You've read a LOT of books!! The last two I read were by Ayn Rand. Classics.

I just started on Hosseini's "A Thousand Splendid Suns". Heartbreaking, but he is such an amazing writer.
ReplyDeleteI just recently read the 4th Odd Thomas book by Dean Koontz & "The Hippos Were Boiled in Their Tanks", by Jack Kerouac & William Burroughs.
In spite of the fact that I don't generally read those type of books, I admit that I'm growing more & more curious of the Sookie Stackhouse books after watching season 1 of "True Blood". I think it'd be interesting to make a comparison between the books & the series.

ReplyDeleteI've been on an ebook kick. I just read Josh Lanyon's "I Spy Something Bloody" and reread "One Good Hand" by Rowan McBride.

They were ALL awesome books.
How did you like the Edith Wharton book? Was that a reread for you?

Personally I was disappointed in Tribute. It was my first ever Nora Roberts book. Thankfully, her Blood Brother series made up for it. Great list!

Nicholas - Sorry! I do occasionally read male writers, just none recently.
Sandier Pastures - *Gasp* I don't think I've not had at least one book going. Sometimes it may take me longer to read one than at other times (depending how busy life is), but I always have at least one going.
Shelley - Oooh...another hot one, eh?
Hootin' Anni - No, not all romances. Summer is actually a classic, and Gardner and Hooper are more thriller. The Sookie books are vampire mysteries. Of those that are romance, a couple are contemporary, and two are historical.

Rasmenia - I actually have The Kite Runner in my TBR mountain, but have never read Patterson (my sister and BIL have all his, though). As for the Sookie series, I don't have HBO, so have not seen the series, and I'm generally not that big on vampires, but I devoured this set in under two weeks. Book 8 is on the TBR pile.
Stephanie - I thought Tribute was pretty good. MUCH better than the recent Lifetime movie.
Jennifer - This was my first read of Summer and I loved it, though it got so emotional near the end I had to set it aside a couple hours before I could finish.
Carmen - Yes, dear, I know you have a new book out. Nice spotlight in The Quill, BTW. ;)
Adelle - Sorry to hear you didn't like Tribute. I haven't read the Blood Brothers series yet, though it is in the TBR.
ReplyDeleteLindsey - What can I say, I like a bit of variety in my reading. Plus, goes back to that thread in Toni's group about how romance readers are more likely to read across different genres. *g*
Inez - Mercedes Coffin... Can't say I've heard of that one. Sounds intriguing!
Claudia - I've always been a voracious reader, but there was one dark year when I didn't seem to do much. It really seemed to have a negative affect on my psyche/mood, so I've been trying to do more reading the last couple years. I seem to need that and regular journaling to be more centered.
Jana - I think you would like the Sookie books. I was wary about trying them myself, but there was so much talk and prodding that I decided to take a chance. You know how I don't generally gravitate towards vampires, but I really liked this series. I have no idea how they compare to the HBO series, as it is a channel I don't get. I've heard that while True Blood is based on the books, the writers took a lot of liberties and it is very hot.
Harriet - Thank you. My ultimate goal is to read more than last year, as well as read four classics (one down, three to go), and so far I seem to be on target with that.
ReplyDeleteRetired Gal - I love Goldberg. I attended an author event with her last month, and she was amazing. So personable and down to earth. I've heard a little about the Lamb book and hope you are enjoying it.
Paige - Someone on another loop was reading Erin's book this week as well. Sounds like a good one!

Judging from the covers, you and I have a good bit in common, book-wise. I'm new to the Sookie books; right now I am reading Living Dead in Dallas. I think I like it better than Dead Until Dark. Everyone I've talked to says the series gets better with each book, so I look forward to reading them all!

I remember reading Writing Down the Bones for a creative writing class - poetry, if I remember correctly. It was a good book! Currently reading...um...noting at the moment, other than blogs!

ReplyDeleteXakara - I too haunted used book stores trying to find copies of the Sookie books, but soon realized that, due to the popularity of the TV show, it wasn't going to happen this century. Then I found the boxed set at Amazon for 43% off, did the math, and realized the books were then less than half price so I caved and bought it. And was glad I did when I was able to devour one after the other.
Belle - Living Dead in Dallas wasn't one of my faves of the series. In fact, I thought book 7 was the best. I'm finally starting book 8 now.
Daisy - LOL...reading blogs can take up a lot of one's time. I have to say, one of the best inventions ever was Google Reader. I love that it tells me when favorite blogs have updates so I don't have to waste time checking to see who has posted.
RJ - *Gasp* Only one book in four months? Umm...aren't writers supposed to do frequent "market research"? ;)
