Teaser Tuesday 31: How To Wash A Cat

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading. Anyone can play along! Just do the following:

* Grab your current read.
* Share a few “teaser” sentences from somewhere in the book.
* BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (Make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away. You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
* Share the title and author so that other participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teaser!

The stairs appeared even less stable under illumination. The structure shuddered violently as I put my weight onto the top step, and I grabbed onto the trap door, nearly losing my balance.

This was an okay mystery. Not a five-star, but a decent way to pass a weekend—if for no other reason than the cats, Rupert and Isabella, who positively come to life through the author's descriptions. I would probably give the second book in this series, Nine Lives Last Forever (available in June), a try if for no other reason than to catch up with Rupert and Isabella.

Or maybe I just miss having a cat of my own, LOL.

Book Blurb:
Set in modern day San Francisco—the tale of a Gold Rush legend, a pair of tulip-shaped cufflinks, an enigmatic uncle, a persistently obnoxious neighbor, and, of course, the washing of a cat . . .

  2. Marce: I suppose it does help if you like cats, or animals in general, LOL. Seriously, it was an okay mystery.

  3. I miss having a cat of my own. Maybe I should give the book a try, though I generally don't read mystery.

  7. Interesting title, sounds intriguing!

My teaser this week is satirical fiction from a small Australian publisher: http://www.bookloverbookreviews.com/2010/04/teaser-tuesday_20.html

  8. Oh my wondering what will be found in the attic and if the character manages to get there? Suspenseful teaser.

  9. I don't have fond memories of trying to wash cats.

    Mine is here

  10. I always enjoy a good mystery. This sounds like an easy read - will have to mark it down.

HERE is my teaser for this week.

Thanks for stopping by my blog.

  17. I don't think I've ever read a book from the view point of a cat. great teaser.

  18. Rupert? What a grand name for a cat! Like you, I'd read a followup just to check in on a critter--in my case a dog. Sometimes it's a break to read something that's not so "weighty."

My selection this week is A Woman in Berlin which was very serious. The link: Summit Musings

  19. Alice: I miss having a cat, but not the expense. It's amazing how much food and litter can cost, LOL!

Jennifer: Yes, it is a cozy mystery. The heroine inherits an antiques shop from her uncle, and she and her cats move into the attached apartment.

Sarah: I hope you find it worth adding to your book list!

Beth: I confess, the title is what first drew me to this book. Alas, poor Rupert! lol

BBR: I wish I could take credit for the title, as I also love it. *grin*

  20. Jan: It's actually a cellar, but just as creepy. LOTS of surprises down there! ;)

Marg: My cat being a long-haired beasty, I had to administer baths at least twice a year, but never had any problems. She cried a lot, but it was otherwise pretty uneventful. I know other pet owners are not as lucky.

Lisa: I hope you find and enjoy it!

Audrey: It was an easy read, which is why it was so appalling it took me a week to read it. Health issues made concentrating on words difficult last week. I enjoyed many a long HOT bath with this one

  21. Amy: I rather liked the title myself! *g*

Kathy: Thank you, I'm glad it did not disappoint, considering how much I loved the title.

Alayne: Old basements are always dangerous. Especially the dark, dank ones, hehe...

Michelle: There were a few scenes in this one that made me laugh. I almost posted one of those instead of this one, but did not want to embarrass poor Rupert. *wink*

Book Sake: Thank you, and thanks for visiting!

  22. Kaye: Gee, I wonder who some of those comments on GoodReads were by...? *WEG*

Laurel-Rain: Definitely a cute cover, and pretty appropriate to the book.

Lit Witch: Thanks, I will have to check yours out. I beleive I've seen that one mentioned on someone else's blog. Love the name, BTW!

Kaye: A book from the POV of a cat might be interesting, but this is not one of them. It is actually first person in the heroine's POV, but her cats feature prominently in her life and the story.

Faye: Isn't that a great cat name? He is a fat, white persian and the name totally fits his personality.

  24. Jennifer/Mrs. Q: Thanks, I had some difficulty settling on a teaser for this week. I like the creep factor in this one, hehe...

  25. Washing a cat is never a good idea if you want to keep your skin on!

    My teaser is here.

  26. I totally forgot about the cost. Still cheaper than having kids, though.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Lisa: Certainly not an easy task, but I have done it successfully without war wounds.

Alice: Which is a good reason for my not having kids, lol. Much better to be the aunt. Spoil them a couple hours and send 'em home when they get on your nerves! *VBG*

  28. I could use an aunt nearby. So many times I wished I could send them off for a while knowing they'd be back when I was in a better mood. But then, I want to send them off for a few days at a whack, not a few hours.

  29. Oooh mysterious! I have to say I like okay mystery books. They're a fun, quick read and light on the eyes :). I usually use them as beach reads. Great teaser!
