** Nancy Atherton was the May author of the month for the Cozy Mystery Group at GoodReads. I had read the first book, Aunt Dimity's Death a couple years previously and though I meant to read more in the series, never got round to it until now.
** Aaron Elkins was the June author of the month for the Cozy Mystery Group at GoodReads. First time reading him, but definitely not the last!

ReplyDeleteJehara: Yes, I did enjoy it. It's not as action-packed as previous books, esp the first 3/4 of it, but it does tie up a few loose ends.
I remember your teaser from Cut to the Corpse. That was fun.

ReplyDeleteI've got the first six episodes of True Blood waiting for me on the table. Would I like the TV series or the books better? I actually read the first one but was so bummed out it was the first of a series, I never read another. (I prefer to find series when they're already finished, or at least well established, so I have plenty of them to read. Instant gratification syndrome, ya know!)
Never heard of any of them, but the Mary Jane Davidson books sound cool!

Shelley: Annette Blair is a new-to-me author with an extensive backlist. I just lucked onto a copy of her newest "Vintage Magic" book, Death by Diamonds at the UBS, as well as three of her witch books. Naturally each of the witch books are from a different trilogy. *Rolls eyes*

Adelle: I've never read Dekker, but his newest, The Bride Collector, has been calling to me. Looks really good!

Tatiana: LOL...my apologies for being such an enabler. As for Cut to the Corpse, it's a "cozy" mystery by Berkley Prime Time, which is known for titles with such clever play on words. I love 'em!

ReplyDeleteRobin: I hear your pain and impatience where series are concerned. I've now read all ten Sookie books (and the related book of short stories, A Touch of Dead), and was glad that I started the series just as book 8 came out in PB and 9 in HC as I literally read the first eight in two weeks. Now having to wait a year between books is agony!
ReplyDeleteAs for the HBO series, I've only seen the first season of True Blood on DVD. It was okay, but I much prefer the books. The writing of the series is pretty good, and the first season started out following the first book pretty faithfully - but then they changed stuff in the last couple eps of season one that completely change later events in the series, and the series is A LOT more graphic. I know some people prefer the TV series while some love both, but me personally - I'd rather stay with the books.
Oh, you have three of my favorite series listed (Sookie, Aunt Dimity, and Queen Betsy)!! Nice list.

Paige: I think you'd like MaryJanice Davidson's series, epsecially vampire king Eric Sinclair. Start with Undead and Unwed. ;)

Hi Izzybella! As you can probably tell, those are three of my favorite series, too. I just finished the Lily Bard series. Quick reads, though definitely not light reading. I did enjoy it, though.
Ooooh new stuff. I've been on a S.S. Van Dine kick and I'm not sure why. (Speaking of cozy mysteries)

ReplyDeleteSasha: I'm liking what I've read of Elkin so far. He has three different series, but for now I'm sticking with the Gideon Oliver "skeleton detective" series. There's more than a dozen and I'm only up to book three!
