One of the benefits of where I work is that we have a garden. Not a lot in it that I like, but it's nice that I can help myself to whatever is growing. Tomatoes and zucchini have been especially plentiful this year. Here are thirteen photos I've taken over the past month. Enjoy!

Mmm...yummy green beans. I pick a ton of these every week, and have been eating a lot of them the last month. As long as you pick them regularly, when they are about 6-8 inches long, you will have beans into September. Hope I don't get tired of them before then!
Jungle of tomatoes. If you look closely, you can see how storms have knocked over the heavy metal stakes and plants alike. The vines are so heavy with fruit we can't seem to tie them up off the ground.

Oh, num! I love fresh produce from the garden. And I can't imagine having a garden at work. How cool is that? I live in an apartment without a balcony or patio, so the best I can do is the farmer's market. :(
ReplyDeleteMaddy: Like you, I don't have a patio or balcony either, so it's nice to have access to a garden with at least a few things I like (beans and squash). For other veggies, there is the Farmer's Market...when I actually get to it.

ReplyDeleteBut seriously, it all looks so YUMMY. And the blooms are all so PRETTY. Why didn't I know that veggies had such pretty blooms? LOL
Shelley: It is indeed quite productive this year. Last year there was a tomato blight, so there were none of those, and the other plants didn't produce near as well as they are this year, either. They've had me bring stuff home for my neighbors so it doesn't go to waste!

Jana: LOL...I'm affraid they would all have turned or would be mush by the time they got to you. You probably didn't know veggies had blossoms because you don't grow them. Unfortunately, gardens have to be weeded, which is something I know you don't do. *WEG*

ReplyDeleteI raided my SIL's garden last weekend and came home with tomatoes, cukes, bell peppers and jalapenos. she had squash and zucchini, but we didn't bring any back. She'd already picked over and canned most of the green beans, and the watermelons are a little young, and the pumpkins are barely started.
Elise: Thanks! At least you were able to raid your SIL's garden. I'm glad they decided to put in green beans this year out at work so there's something I like other than squash--though I'm starting to get tired of zucchini, and the acorn won't be ready for a while yet. Sigh... *g*

Thanks, Janice! We had no tomoatoes last year do to a potato and tomato blight, but that is definitely not an issue this year. I think they're making up for last summer, lol.
ReplyDeleteLove your garden pictures! Our garden has gone crazy as always, producing more cucumbers, zucchini, summer squash, green beans, cabbage, onions and potatoes than I know what to do with! The tomatoes feel so slow this year, but I know we'll be hit with them any moment now...

ReplyDeleteFresh produce is the best! I think tomatoes are the best example of how different store bought and home grown can taste.

Alice: I think most people like more of what we have growing here than I do. Which is why I want to push for broccoli next year. They'd probably balk at Brussels sprouts. Sigh.
Jill: Fresh is definitely best! I'm glad so many more communities are starting to plant community gardens or sponsor farmers' markets for those without space to grow their own.
