I'm always copying down quotes or passages I see in books, on calendars--heck, even lines of dialogue from TV or movies. Some are witty, some inspirational; a few are both. Here are thirteen random quotes I've come across this year.
1. The secret of getting ahead is getting started.
~Sally Berger
2. The artist is nothing without the gift, but the gift is nothing without the work.
~ Emile Zola

~ James Champy

~ Robert E. Lee
5. We are what we imagine ourselves to be.
~ Kurt Vonnegut Jr.
6. Wonder is the beginning of wisdom.
~ Greek proverb
7. The only way to keep your health is to eat what you don't want, drink what you don't like, and do what you'd rather not.
~ Mark Twain
8. There's always time to read. Don't trust a writer who doesn't read. It's like eating food by a cook who doesn't eat.
~ Laura Lippman
9. Within our dreams and our aspirations we find our opportunities.
~ Sue Atchley Ebaugh
10. Show class, have pride, and display character. If you do, winning takes care of itself.
~ Paul Bryant
11. Love dictates, but a kiss writes the secrets of the heart.
~ Anonymous
12. Giving is a necessity sometimes...more urgent, indeed, than having.
~ Margaret Lee Runbeck

Judy: Definitely great advice, I hope they continue to encourage you.
ReplyDeleteHazel: Thank you, those are two of my favorites as well.
Darla: Perhaps I should have put them in reverse order? You are what you think you are, but don't try to fool others into thinking you are what you are not? *G*
Thanks, Harriet, glad you enjoyed!
Paige: Thanks!
ReplyDeleteTatiana: I'm glad numbers one and nine are helping to inspire you!
Alice: Very true. I think it's also true that we are different people, depending upon the group(s) we are with at any given time.
Jennifer: Yes, the two definitely go hand in hand. I need to remember that one right now and get my but in gear where holiday cards are concerned. Know what I want to do, just need to actually do it.
I love these. I think my favorite is the Mark Twain one.
ReplyDelete#8 is so true. I like the one about kissing and love. :)
ReplyDeleteMaria: Twain was definitely one witty curmudgeon! *g*
ReplyDeleteShelley: I'm partial to the Laura Lippman quote, too. I just picked up a few of her books at the library's used book sale to try and can't wait to dive into one.
I actually had some problems with that in Madison. I ran with three, incompatible groups. Everything was fine as long as they stayed separate, but when I got people from both groups talking to me at the same time there were problems.
ReplyDeleteI can see where that could cause problems. I confess, it's one of the reasons I've been reluctant to join facebook. There are some groups of people I don't want coming into contact with each other, LOL.
