Thursday Thirteen 181: Homemade Christmas 2

A few more handmade ornaments from my tree—with less commentary than last week.

Trio of Scandinavian "pillow" ornaments. I stitched at least two of each of the eight designsin the set in 2005. These are the three I kept for myself.

This is a painted ornament similar to the white one shown in last week's post. Materials: glass ornament, acrylic paint, ribbon, hot glue gun.

I couldn't resist stitching this pair of frolicking reindeer this year. They are only 1-1/2 inches high, stitched on perforated paper. Whipped up both while watching one movie.

14-ct Aida cloth. Lace and pattern were part of a kit. 1992.

Birds on cinnamon stick "wood pile." 1990's.

Aida Cloth, circa 2008.

Perforated paper. I made this frame for my parents when my one niece was born. She is now in college.

Perforated paper, about 2" tall—perfect for small spaces.
There is also a green one. Circa 2007.

Another example of what one can do with
a little acrylic paint, ribbon, and a hot glue gun.

A pair of "country" ornaments, 14-ct Aida cutouts, 2009.

14-ct Aida cloth cutout, 1991.

Victorian, perforated paper, circa 1990.

Perforated paper, precut and scored from a kit.

  1. For some reason, I thought those two birds were sitting on cigars, and I thought, how lovely! Ornaments you can smoke! :)

Well, they kinda look like cigars....

  2. I'm so jealous! I love Christmas trees with handmade ornaments. Our current house is too small and packed with stuff to put up a Christmas tree, and I think the Demon Spawn and his Young Apprentice destroyed most of my ornaments, which were stored over there. NEXT year we'll be in the new house, with lots and lots of space. THEN I'll go crazy with holiday decorating.

My security word is toncili. I hope that's not a sign that someone's coming down with a sore throat...

  7. I wonder if we could put some decorations this year...? Any advice for keeping Kitty out of the tree?

    Happy TT!

  8. What beautiful, unique ornaments! My tree is so...cookie-cutter. I'll need to get my crafty vibe on for next year.

  10. Stephanie: Thank you - that's probably my least favorite of those posted, and yet there's something about it... lol

Alice: The Scandinavian pillows are a definite favorites. I went crazy trying to find them this year, and finally discovered them stuff in the box of a large angel decoration I had decided not to set out this year. That'll teach me...

  11. Xakara: Time to break out the craft supplies and challenge your creativity! C'mon...I dare ya! *g*

    Darla: Thank you.

    Adelle: *blush* Thanks, mon amie!

  12. Kimberly: How to keep animals out of the tree is always a dilemma, though many pets have no interest at all. I think a constant and firm "no" goes a long way, and every time she even looks in its direction, distract her with one of her own toys.

Skylar: Why wait for next year? Still plenty of time to add to this year's tree, and you can go a long way with a few sheets of decorative paper and cookie cutters. Just ask any kid! *G*

Paige: Thank you, the birds are kind of cute, aren't they?

Maddy: Thank you, I enjoy hearing which ones people like best!

  16. You're good! The birds and the painted ornament are my favorites. I think I'd have a lot of fun doing crafts like that, but I've already got lots of hobbies and interests and little time as it is ...

  17. Bratty: Bite you tongue, woman! This is a smoke-free household. Besides, cinnamon sticks smell so much better.

Robin: I honestly don't know what to say about the Demon Spawn. I'm sorry he's already destroyed so many of your things. From what you've mentioned previously, he'd likely torch a tree. Oh, and I sincerly hope you are not coming down with something. I'm trying to talk myself out of a sinus infection as well. It's too blasted dry in here!

Tatiana: Thank you. Most of my craft time are the hours spent in front of the TV. I hate just sitting and doing nothing at all, and you really can get a lot done in an hour or two.
