Teaser Tuesday 98: Protecting...

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading. Anyone can play along! Just do the following:

* Grab your current book or recent read.
* Share a few “teaser” sentences from somewhere in the book.
* BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (Make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away. You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
* Share the title and author so that other participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teaser!

Just finished this rom suspense, part of Julie Miller's "The Precinct: SWAT" series. A good ending to the RGK saga, and yay me—I correctly guessed who the serial killer was.

"Shh." She kissed him again, lightly brushing her lips across his, testing the will of this coiled panther of a man, cooing sounds of desire and comfort in her throat."
(pg 19)

And because it's not only romance, but suspense...

Fire burned through the sleeves of his jacket and seared his right side before they slid to a stop. Josie held on tight and screamed against his neck as bits of hot metal and molten plastic rained down from the smoke-blackened sky above them.

FROM GOOD READS:
Protecting the Pregnant Witness
By Julie Miller

A ruthless killer...an expectant mother…one determined cop.

Rafe Delgado had been there for Josie Nichols her entire life. So when he turned to her one night, emotionally drained thanks to a heartbreaking case, her longtime crush on the brooding cop reached a whole new level. But afterward, Rafe went back to being untouchable and Josie didn't know how to break through his shell...even to tell him she was pregnant.

Everything Rafe did was by the book and so his moment of weakness could never be repeated. He didn't deserve someone like Josie...even if it was a daily struggle to keep his hands off her. But learning she could ID a cold–blooded killer changed everything. Now she was in his protective custody and caring about her only made his job harder. And learning about his unborn child made it nearly impossible.

This book was a gift from a friend. Thanks, L!

Good teasers, Heather. I haven't read an Intrigue romance for ages. This one sounds like a goodie, and guessing the baddie is always a plus!

Very nice teasers. This is a genre I enjoy. I'll have to check this one out.

I have two again this week. My first teaser is from The Dragon's Tooth by N. D. Wilson and my second is from Evil Ways by Justin Gustainis. Happy reading!

Shelley: I used to love Harl. Intrigue, but don't read them much anymore. There are only a couple authors I still occasionally follow, Julie Miller being one of them.

Kathy: Thank you. The serial killer arc actually spans three books, so if you can find them I do recommend reading Man With the Muscle and Protecting Plain Jane first.

Thanks, Jenny! *G*

So you're saying it was pretty good? About ten years ago Intrigue sent out a call for manuscripts and I read a bunch to see if I could write one. I've avoided them ever since.

Thanks, Jess--glad you like!

Alice: Yes, it was good. I used to read a ton of HI, still have a large bin full of unread ones I might eventually get to. There are a few authors I still like: Julie Miller, Ann Voss Peterson, Rebecca York... There are a few people who thought -- well, still think -- I should be trying to write one.

Kyanara: Thanks, and thank you for visiting! *g*

I haven't heard of this series or author before, I love suspense novels. Romance is alright as long as the suspense is there! lol That's cool you figured out who the serial killer was!

TBM: Thank you!

Gigi Ann: *Grin* Thanks!

Fireflywishes: I love the occasional romance, especially when combined with suspense. I've been reading Julie Miller about ten years now, and had the chance to meet her several years back.
