One of the surprises since moving late last summer is that there are, apparently, dozens of tulips planted in front of our building. Unfortunately, due to the cold spring and fluxuating temps, they've been rather slow in coming up. We've gone from 82F last Tuesday down to mid-40s and three consecutive nights of freeze warnings. Here's hoping Sunday night was the last of those we'll see this season!
I love tulips. One of these years I'm going to plant an entire hillside of my yard with them...well, alternating tulips and daffodils. I want it so that from February to whenever every year, the hill is alive with gorgeous flowers.
Jana: It's wise to plant daffodils in among the tulips, as the dafs deter certain critters from munching on them--like bunnies. They're also pretty low maintenance. Just plant the bulbs in the fall, and watch them bloom in the spring.
I like tulips. Note to self - I need to plant some.
ReplyDeleteHi Shelley! Fall's the time to plant, so now is the time for you New Zealander's to get them in the ground. :)

ReplyDeleteBeautiful photo. Tulips are lovely...too bad I am not good with gardening
ReplyDeleteThanks, Novroz. It looks like we may see a few more blooming this week, as the weather warms up again.
ReplyDeleteWe have had the same wild temperatures.
ReplyDeleteIt's been a crazy spring. We hit 88F today, just one degree off the record high. This, after three nights of frost and freeze warnings.
ReplyDeleteWait, what? I'm...wise? :-D Who knew! hehehe
ReplyDeleteJana: Hey, don't go putting words in my mouth! I said it was a wide idea, not that you were wise. hehe... ☺
