I remember the first time I saw one of these as a kid and thinking it was a rare orchid. So hearty and so purple and rich!
Star: Aren't they beautiful? There are about four dozen blooming outside my building, and all seemed to pop overnight last week.
Colleen: I can understand the confusion, as they do seem to resemble some species of orchids.
They look just like the kind of iris I grew up with. For a long time I thought all iris looked like them.
Alice: Iris come in different sizes and all colors of the rainbow. These are quite tall, between three and four feet, while a friend has some that are only about twelve inches.
