Can you guess which animal left these tracks?
Bird's nest, blown or knocked out of a tree.
These found items were left hanging on a tree along the bike path. When I was down this way a week later, they were gone.

My first guess on the tracks would be racoon, but I'll bet you say badger.
ReplyDeleteThe glove and scarf look like they're floating.
Alice: I think they are badger. Raccoon prints look more distinctly like a human hand. Unlike their relatives the groundhog, badgers do not hibernate, though they are less active in winter.
ReplyDeleteI was going to say a raccoon as well on the tracks, but I see you say badger. We don't have badgers around here, we have groundhogs.
ReplyDeleteAnita: I could be wrong, but think badger is correct. Raccoon "fingers" seem more elongated, like a human'a, in pics I've seen. We have badgers, raccoons and groundhogs in my neighborhood. Opossums, too, though I've never actually seen one.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the views of Wisconsin winter. I like trying to guess what animal made the tracks.

Mia: Like you don't have practically the same views outside your door -- I saw that the Milwaukee area got a bit more snow than we did on Sunday.
ReplyDeleteGreat shots. Really dig the thin ice.
ReplyDeleteI had no idea about the prints. Any prints we see are domestic animals. I felt cold after seeing your photos!
ReplyDeleteOooh I love the one through ice and the ghostly red scarf and glove!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Ron!
ReplyDeleteShelley: Trying to ID animal tracks in snow can be fun. There was actually a course on it at the Arboretum this weekend, but I did not attend due to a) other plans and b) too darn cold.
Colleen: Thank you. I could see the ghostly apparel some yards off, but could not determine what the red was (hat or scarf) until I was there. I hope it was their proper owner(s) who removed them.
