He was part of The Monkey Wrench Gang, kind of a precursor to the more violent end of Green Peace. He wrote extensively of the joys of being in nature, but was not really a nature freak himself as he wasn't the least bit dewy eyed about all his back country camping. Big in the 60's. I'm not sure if he's still around or not.
I know, I know. First I say he is a nature freak, then I say he isn't. What I mean is that he wasn't naive about it like most of the tree hugger crowd. He knew very well it could kill you.
