Thursday Thirteen 317: Winter Walk

A few photos from a winter walk. These were all taken at the end of December, the last time I was able to get out for a nice walk -- and a rare day above freezing. We've had a lot of days in the single and negative digits this month. And yes, there are still a lot of Christmas decorations up. When you live in the Frozen Tundra, you don't expect to get them down before March.



Yes, the snow is as deep as it seems.


Snow-covered shed.


A cold abode.


There were green bows along the length of this fence.


A row of trees at a nearby park.


Sledding at the local park.


This is a great hill for sledding -- it's steep, but not too dangerous.


There was a thick layer of snow in the pine boughs.


Love the garland and real ornaments hung in the trees.


Another pine bough.


A well-cleared sidewalk is appreciated by neighbors. (Not to mention
that not shoveling, or shoveling entire width, comes with a hefty fine.)


More snow and pines.


Is it just me, or do these poor penguins look cold? They are
still trapped in the snow.

    if it weren't for the beaks, I'd never have guessed they were penguins. I forget you have evergreen trees.

    Colleen: Winter can be beautiful, but also terrifying if not properly prepared or dressed. I always wear layers when spending time outside. Many do not think about taking water along when spending time outdoors, either, but it is just as easy to become dehydrated in the cold as it is the heat.

    Alice: LOL...yes, we have a variety of evergreens around here, in all shapes, sizes and shades of green. ☺

    The penguins don't look like birds at all. It's nice looking at the photos, but I can't imagine coping with the snow all the time.

    Shelley: Maybe it helps seeing them at night when they are lit up, LOL. As for the snow...I don't mind that so much, it's the Arctic blasts that wear on you. We've had windchill advisories every day this week. :-\

    Thanks, Anita -- it was right around 32F that day. Cold, but not bitter cold.
