While walking at Indian Springs Park last weekend, I saw a ton of dragonflies, especially the large red ones which kept landing in the grass, though one did try to land on my hand.
Colleen: I recently saw them referred to as "mosquito hawks" in a book I was reading, and I think I've heard the term "darning needles" applied to dragonflies as well.
Such fascinating and entertaining creatures!
ReplyDeleteBeth -- I love watching all the different dragonflies. I especially like the ones I see at the Arb prairies that are as big as small birds.
ReplyDeleteWE used to call them sewing needles!

ReplyDeleteI like dragonflies, if for nothing else then for their mosquito diets.
ReplyDeleteAlice: Their mosquito diets is one of the things I love best about them!
ReplyDeleteI've never seen a red one. Pretty neat!
ReplyDeleteJana: We get a LOT of read ones in our area. They really stand out against the green grass.
ReplyDeleteDragonflies are very interesting insects. I've never seen a red one.
ReplyDeleteLea -- Thanks. I wonder if the red are more usual here in the north, since neithef you nor Jana has seen one?
