Teaser Tuesday 55: The Tale of Hill Top Farm

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading. Anyone can play along! Just do the following:

* Grab your current book or recent read.
* Share a few “teaser” sentences from somewhere in the book.
* BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (Make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away. You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
* Share the title and author so that other participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teaser!

Finished over the weekend:

She gave up trying to fight the hot, bitter tears and simply lowered her forehead onto her knees and gave way to wrenching sobs. She cried for what seemed like a long time, and then, exhausted with the effort of dealing with so many problems and facing so many facts, lay down on the grass, pillowed her head on her arms, and fell asleep.

About the book:

England, 1905. A Londoner—a female Londoner—has just bought a farm in rural Sawrey. The locals don't know what to make of Beatrix Potter. They've never heard of an unwed woman buying and running a farm. Some meet her with genuine warmth; others keep her at arm's length. Beatrix, recovering from the death of her fiancĂ©, believes she can heal in the countryside, a quiet place to work on her children's stories. But when a villager dies unexpectedly, with allegations of foul play, Sawrey turns out to be anything but quiet...

This Beatrix Potter series is so cute and so like the fairy-tales she writes on Peter Rabbit. Nice books for a good reading escape! Here's mine

Wonderful teaser! I love Beatrix Potter's books (who doesn't?), and I've got this one on my TBR list. Sounds like a great read.

Here’s my teaser from Book of Shadows.

Bird Book Dog: Yes, they are indeed very like Potter's own children's books. Though this was a heart-wrenching scene, there were many others that had me smiling or laughing out loud.

Joy: Reading this series has had me revisiting some of those old childhood favorites by Beatrix Potter. So thankful for Project Gutenburg!

Great teaser! This one is in my TBR pile and I've been wanting to get to it for the You've Got Mail Challenge.

Here's my teaser.

Emmegail: Thank you. I hope this teaser has encouraged you to pull this book out of the TBR pile! *g*

Gracious...that excerpt is timely. hehe Yesterday was one of those days for me except I didn't have to sit down and sob it out, much less fall asleep in the grass.

I do love a story about independent women fighting against obstacles...and surviving! (Even if they have to cry along the way).

I have so enjoyed Potter's books, and learning more about the woman sounds really wonderful.

Thanks for visiting my blog.

Jana: Glad you're feeling better today! *g*

Laurel-Rain: Miss Potter was definitely an independent woman, much to the dismay of her parents. I am loving this series of books based on her.

Sounds like the wrenching tears of grief. No fun to live, but makes for a good teaser.

Alice: Tears of grief or despair are definitely no fun to live through, but a good cry once in a while is good for the soul!

I'm fine with a good cry if I'm crying over a movie or book. Not so much in real life.

Beth: It really is! I've only finished the first two, but am looking forward to collecting the rest.
