Thursday Thirteen 439: Autumn Cards

I had a fairly productive craft day this week, and since I haven't shared anything in recent weeks, I thought I'd share some of the fruits of my labor. These were all made for Thanksgiving or fall birthdays, with one exception. All cards measure 5-1/5 by 4-1/4 inches.



This sympathy card was the one card not made for Thanksgiving or birthday.

The background for this and the next were made
using strips of coordinating paper scraps. A time-
consuming technique, but a unique result -- no
two cards look exactly alike, even when using the
same materials.

Thanksgiving Cards 2015

This year's Thanksgiving cards, which I actually got out before Thanksgiving -- which is saying quite a bit this year.

All cardstock and dies from DCWV and Wausau Paper (white). All cards measure 4.25 inches by 5.5 inches.

A Thanksgiving Card

This card fits F4A247: A CASE for Favorites, in which we were to look at the first five cards in our "favorites" gallery at SCS and copy one of them. As it happens, three of those cards used one of my favorite retired sets from Stampin' Up, Botanicals, which paired nicely with the turkey stamp I recently acquired and which is made in the USA -- one of the reasons I couldn't resist him. There is a computer printed greeting inside that says, "May you have more blessings than a turkey has feathers."

Thursday Thirteen 356: Wild Turkeys

In honor of Thanksgiving, I give you thirteen turkeys. These were all taken around my neighborhood over the past three months.

Okay, technically I did not see any wild turkeys on this outing. I followed their
tracks up the hill towards the park, but they disappeared into someone's yard
before I reached the summit. I was hoping to photograph them in some snow!

This was actually photographed in a friend's neighborhood, and
while not a wild turkey, I couldn't resist including him. Happy Thanksgiving!

Thursday Thirteen 311: The Thanksgiving Edition

I'm borrowing from Sunday Stealing this week, since it is appropriate to the day. I'm not sure how much time (if any) I will get online today, but will try to visit people when I can. For all those celebrating today, have a Safe and Happy Thanksgiving, and GO PACKERS!


1. What do you have for breakfast on Thanksgiving? Usually a coffee cake, donuts or cinnamon rolls.

2. Do you go to a Thanksgiving parade or watch one on TV? Sometimes watch the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.

3. Do you serve appetizers, lunch, or snacks during the day? Nope, not even when the Packers are playing.

4. What are the traditional favorites? Turkey, Mashed potatoes and gravy, sweet potatoes, and stuffing.

5. What new recipes will you try this year? None. You don't mess with what works. *G*

6. Who gets to carve the turkey? It varies. Growing up it was always Dad. At my sister’s, it's was usually her. At a friend’s house, it’s always her brother.

7. Family style around the table or buffet style and everyone sits wherever there’s room? Around the table. The only time we've ever done buffet style were the two years my BIL, sister, mom and I met his grandmother at a restaurant for dinner.

8. How many will be at your table this year? Seven.

9. Once you're at the table, do you say grace or a toast, or does everyone go around and say what they're thankful for? None of the above.

10. Cranberry sauce -- yay or nay? NAY. I hate cranberries, and anything cranberry flavored. In fact, there will be none on our table today.

11. Three best pies for Thanksgiving dessert? Pumpkin, Banana Cream, apple

12. Do you have dessert right after the main meal or later on? In MY family we always waited an hour or so, after the table was cleared, dishes done and most of the food was put away -- plus, it gives dinner time to digest. When I eat with a friend’s family it’s always right after dinner, so I usually decline until later.

13. Favorite leftover? Turkey! And sweet potatoes -- love sweet potatoes. This was the one downside of the couple years we ate out--no leftovers.

2013 Thanksgiving cards

A couple cards for Thanksgiving . . .

Two things a friend and I agree on is that there really aren't enough stamps for Thanksgiving and it is hard to find a decent turkey stamp -- and let's face it, you can't use the same exact stamp every year. So . . . I did an internet search for turkey clipart and found these two images. Designer paper is from DCWV, solids from Darice. Greeting is computer printed and punched using the Word Window from Stampin' Up.

Thursday Thirteen 266: Post-Thanksgiving

I did not participate in last week's Thursday Thirteen as it was Thanksgiving here in the US, and I knew I would not have time or access. I spent the weekend with friends, and to say there was a lot of food would be an understatement. Here's what was on the table:

1. Turkey, of course
2. Mashed potatoes
3. Gravy
4. Sausage stuffing
5. Candied sweet potatoes (made by me)
6. Roasted acorn squash (squash from work garden, but cooked by another friend)
7. Green bean casserole -- why do some people insist on ruining perfectly good green beans?
8. Corn -- for those of us who dislike ruined green beans
9. Lefse
10. Dinner rolls
11. Pumpkin trifle (instead of pie this year)
12. Banana cream pie (made by me)
13. Birthday cake -- gotta love those holiday birthdays


Friends and I made up "frozen dinners" with some of the leftovers (plates ready to go from freezer to microwave), and froze bowls of extra gravy and turkey -- and we were still eating leftovers through Sunday. It's hard to believe that was a week ago already. Where did this week go??

Currently reading Holiday Hideout, a 3-in-1 collection of holiday novellas by Vicki Lewis Thompson, Jill Shalvis and Julie Kenner. So far I have finished the first story by VLT, which I liked, and am about to start the second by Shalvis. Here is a short teaser from each one.

Thanksgiving Cards 2011

This year's Thanksgiving cards involved more work than those I usually do. When I saw this card, I knew I had to copy it as best I could, given the supplies on hand as I have no budget to go craft shopping. I worked on these in the evening every night for a week while watching TV.

First, I stamped and cut out all the pheasants. I did about thirty, just in case I accidentally amputated a tail feather or a foot or two. Any extras can always be used for fall or masculine birthday cards.



Next came all the punching. I used my Sizzix Sidekick (mine is red BTW, not pink) for all the leaves and acorns, and the Sizzix Bigshot (again, mine is red and white) for the Top Note die (the large fancy brown pieces). A scalloped punch was used for the small white squares, with brown pieces cut to mat. I also had to stamp and cut out the larger, patterned leaves (left, on top of brown Top Note).




After cutting grey grosgrain ribbon the width of the card (4.25 inches), I then cut out the middle portion of the Top Note die, going lengthwise. These were adhered about an inch away from the righthand side of the card. The ribbon was glued on top of that, to cover the seam.

Next came the matted squares. The pheasant was adhered to center of square, with large stamped leaf tucked behind the top left corner. Other leaves and acorns were then adhered randomly, and a greeting tucked under the right side of the small square. Greetings are computer generated—I had to create my own, as I had nothing small enough to fit in my stamp cabinets.



Cute, yes? Now to finish all those Christmas cards. I'll be sharing plenty of those in weeks to come, as well as some "scrap" cards I've been working on.
