Teaser Tuesday 243: Think Twice

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading. Anyone can play along! Just do the following:

* Grab your current book or recent read.
* Share a few "teaser" sentences from somewhere in the book.
* BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (Make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away. You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
* Share the title and author so that other participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teaser!

This week I am reading a legal thriller by Lisa Scottoline, Think Twice, the eleventh book in her popular "Rosato & Associates" series. I knew my teaser needed to come from chapter two as I was reading it, but choosing which lines to use? Not so easy. So, bear with me on this being more than two.

She felt the lid. Her thoughts raced ahead of her fingers. The top was sealed. There was nothing inside the box. No air, food, water. No hole to breathe through.

(Chapter two)

ABOUT THE BOOK:
Genre: Mystery/Legal Thriller
Series: Rosato & Associates #11

Is evil born in us—or is it bred? That is the question at the heart of this penetrating novel from blockbuster New York Times bestselling author Lisa Scottoline

Bennie Rosato looks exactly like her identical twin, Alice Connelly, but the darkness in Alice's soul makes them two very different women. Or at least that's what Bennie believes—until she finds herself buried alive at the hands of her twin.

Meanwhile, Alice takes over Bennie's life, impersonating her at work and even seducing her boyfriend in order to escape the deadly mess she has made of her own life. But Alice underestimates Bennie and the evil she has unleashed in her twin's psyche. Soon Bennie, in her determination to stay alive long enough to exact revenge, must face the twisted truth that she is more like Alice than she could have ever imagined . . . and by the novel's shocking conclusion, Bennie finds herself engaged in a war she cannot win—with herself.

With its blistering speed, vivid characters, and perplexing moral questions, Think Twice is a riveting emotional thriller that will keep readers breathless until the very last page.

The only time I resent more than two lines is when someone gives me the whole page.

I'm assuming the teaser is a buried alive scenario.

Alice: You would be correct, though it doesn't give away the plot -- we know what's going to happen from the back cover blurb.

I hope the box she's in isn't buried too. How terrifying. I just love this author.

Yikes!!!!! My teaser

Laura: Scottoline is also a favorite author of mine, though I've not read her in a while. She sure pus Bennie through hell in this one.

Laurel-Rain: Betrayed is in Mount TBR, though I am missing the book in between (Accused).

Beth F: Yikes indeed! ☺

I've enjoyed other books by this author, but I haven't read this one. It sounds like a good story--scary with an original plot. I'll read it for sure.
My Tuesday post features RAINSHADOW ROAD.

Sandra: I've read all the previous books in this series, plus a few stand-alones. It's nice to spend some time with Mary, Bennie and Judy again. I see your teaser is from one in Mount TBR. ☺

The whole idea of being buried alive triggers my claustrophobia and sends chills up my spine. Happy reading!

Heather said...

Kathy: Yes, I can see part of this book being difficult for claustrophobes.

Oh, that's scary!

Okay, think I'll skip this one. It just sounds so creepy!

Heather said...

Thanks, Cleo! So far it has been good, and hard to put down at night. Not good when you have to get up at 6:30!

Sonia: Believe it or not, there was something worse waiting for her than being trapped in a box. ;-)

Jaina: Not as creepy as this teaser may lead one to believe, but I know thrillers aren't for everyone.

Unknown said...

Uh, oh, is she inside or outside of that box?? I'm so curious to know!! Very good tease! And thanks for stopping by My teasers earlier!

Heather said...

Kerry: Uh-uh -- I'm not telling. That would spoil the book. ;-D

This author is so good. I want to read this one.

I don't think we're born evil but some of us have more of a capacity for it under the right circumstances. Sounds spooky!

Heather said...

Yvonne: So far this one has kept me turning the pages. I'm just over halfway into it. I've had difficulty putting it down at night. I was so tired last night, and I've been sick again, but I still had to force myself to put it down last night.

Heather said...

Colleen: It's not really spooky, but it is scary in the sense of how easy it would be for someone to take over someone's identity. The fact that two of the people closest to this person have been so easily fooled is especially scary. I can't wait to see how Bennie gets even. ☺

We like Lisa Scottoline books so will add this one to our TBR, great teaser!

Karen & Gerard: Thank you, I had a feeling you might like this one based on other books you've teased. ☺
