Skywatch Friday 238

As you may have heard on local or national news, last week was quite the "exciting" week around here. It actually began the previous Friday, August 17, with heavy rain. My shoes and socks were soaked by the time I got to work that morning. To add insult to injury, my bus did not come up the Frontage Rd as it is supposed to, but went out the highway (bus stop is between the two roads). I was NOT happy, as that meant I was now going to be late for work. My only choice was to wait at the shelter for ten minutes, then cross the road and dash up the street to catch the bus heading the other direction, to get another bus heading west (this route is so screwed up it isn't funny).

So I'm waiting there and keeping an eye on the time so I knew when to cross over to the other stop, when an "out of service" bus suddenly appeared heading the other way. The driver opened his window and asked if we were all waiting for the westbound, then waved us across and said he would get us there, and did not charge us a fare, as the error was on them. Instead of being a half hour late, I was ten minutes early -- which meant I had enough time to stop at Walgreens. I was hoping for a cheap pair of shoes to get me through the day, but had to settle for a $1 pair of "cozy" socks. As I was behind the register, I was able to spend the day in my stocking feet while my shoes dried.

Fast forward to Monday, August 20. As the forecast was for heavy rain again around
The usual time I would catch the afternoon bus, I left an hour early,  deciding it was better to sit and read for an hour rather than be soaked again -- and was grateful I did when the downpour hit about 3pm. About 5pm it started to rain even harder, for about two hours.

This was the evening sky as I left work on June 26. You would never know we had severe storms through not two hours earlier.

Skywatch Friday 227

These were taken last Wednesday, April 18. We had 7.2 inches here. Thankfully, the nice thing about an April snow in our area is that it doesn't last long. Much of it melted the day after, and we have had fairly decent weather since.
