I love this stamp, and have one more in that series ("Reese") -- I didn't discover them until they were on clearance, so missed getting others that went with them. Greeting on the inside is from Endless Creations and says, "Happy Birthday / Hoping this greeting finds you celebrating in style!"

4th of July Cards -- 2013

Just One More and Weekend Recap

Couldn't resist posting one last sample of the "Fashion Friend-zy" cards made last week. I love how this batch turned out, and especially like the fall colors in this one. Paper is all from DCWV, stamp from Stampendous.

I hope everyone had a great Labor Day weekend. Here, it was HOT but otherwise so-so. Saturday morning I ran errands--bank, hair cut, store--and promptly collapsed in front of the second half of the Badger football game as soon as I got home. Did not see the very end of it, though, as I switched over to TCM for part of their Katherine Hepburn movie marathon: Bringing Up Baby (one of my favorites!), A Philadelphia Story, and Pat & Mike (one I hadn't seen before). After dinner, Kim and I made an Archiver's run, then went to Dark Knight. The movie is...okay. It's good, but definitely not among the best I've seen. Very dark with lots of angst and violence. I was also surprised by one of the characters killed near the end. Still, glad we saw it on the big screen instead of waiting for it to come to DVD or TV.

Sunday my sister, BIL and niece came up and we went up to the Taste of Madison. Despite the heat, the Cap Square was packed with people, and The Bug's picture was taken for a local newspaper. We made the mistake of stopping at Bernie's Beach on the way home so Payton could cool off in the lake. I say mistake as the beach is peppered with little burrs. Poor little bug got a bunch of them in her feet. I can't believe they would not eradicate something like this at a public beach. Not only is getting those in small feet a traumatic experience, they can lead to infection if you don't get all of the prickers out. Next time we'll hit Vilas instead, crowded or not.

Unfortunately, I did not have a good Sunday night. To be honest, I hadn't felt all that great before hitting The Taste (good part of which meant less pigging out, though I really wanted cheesecake), and I think that plus the heat resulted in the horrendous stomach ache that kept me up most the night. (And seriously--I did not eat much at all that day.) I only managed to doze off and on until around 2am, when I finally fell asleep until 5. Then I was awake until about 7 before managing to fall asleep again until 10am, when I was rudely awakened by my sister. I was sooo glad I didn't have work yesterday! I felt better, but still not 100%. Therefore, I did very little over the weekend, other than read and watch TV.

More SC190

A couple more cards from the SC190 batch made up this week. While working on these I found some leftover images of "Julia" from cards made last month, so decided to use them up as well. In both images I tried to change up the color of hair and clothes for some different looks. Total yield: 17 square cards. Oh, and I finally located my hole piercing set, which made centering the brads sooo much easier. You can bet I won't be misplacing that again!

Yes, it's that sketch again. Sue me, I like it. *sticks tongue out* I made up a bunch similar to this, but with different greetings and coloring. I have to say, they were fun to do! I meant to upload this yesterday, but severe storms kept me offline all last night, and we had more bad weather pass through this morning. As if setting a new record for snowfall hasn't been enough this year, we now seem intent upon setting new records for rainfall. *sigh* Just one of those year's, I guess....

While doing laundry today I worked on Christmas cards, working up a design for a friend's cards (I did hers the previous three years), as well as completing one for this week's SCS sketch challenge. Here is the one I did for SC148. It also fits this week's limited supply challenge (LSC140) of making flat holiday cards (no bulky embellishments) for easy mailing.

Land That I Love

How about something a little patriotic as we draw closer to Independence Day -- which is only two weeks away. Where has the year gone?! Next week will be the first of this summer's Concerts on the Square, and the following week (July 4) their big "Stars and Stripes Forever" concert. I'm especially looking forward to that one as the featured guests will be the vocal group Five By Design, a Minneapolis-based quintet featuring 1940s era music. Before you roll your eyes and grimace, trust me--they're good. VERY good. Their shows here are always packed, with the crowd completely circling the Capitol grounds and singing (and often even dancing!) along. It's been a few years since they performed at Concerts on the Square, their last scheduled appearance here having been rained out--hopefully the weather will be cooperative this year.

Anyway, about the card... This is one of a batch of Partiotic cards done up for the troops. My goal was nice and easy cards that enabled me to do a lot in one sitting. I think I succeeded. *grin* I cut the red into strips of 5.5x1.75, then tore one long side of each piece. Flag was stamped below that, slightly off-center, and the sentiment positioned just below that.

Delightful thoughts of you

Another of the many cards made last weekend, this one using the Stampin' Up "Delight in Life" stamp set and "Just Delightful" paper kit, as well as that awesome "Girls Play" stamp from Stampendous. I used the versamark pad to stamp the flowers across the bashful blue (SU) panel, then adhered a length of one of the border strips from the paper kit along the seam. The girls and sentiment (Savvy Stamps) are both stamped in night of navy. The flower in the top corner is also from the paper kit.

Happy Birthday Emily

I made this card Monday night for one of my nieces, after having a "DOH!" moment when one realizes that the birthday in question is only two days away and one must post a card the very next day if the celebrant is to receive the card on her special day. Luckily, I just got this cute new Fluffles stamp, perfect for the young lady in question. Front says, "It's the little things that make life big, " while a simple "Happy Birthday" is stamped inside. Oh, and the snail? Trust me in that he does NOT look that bright pink IRL. He's actually a mix of pink and gray and a bit more subdued than shown in the scan. Really.

Easter Fluffles

These are some of the Easter cards made last week and just sent off overseas for troops to send home to loved ones. The Fluffles stamp is by Stampendous and was colored using Le Plume II markers and colored pencils. There is an entire line of stamps featuring this adorable kitty, with something for almost every holiday and occasion. The greetings are from different companies, including Stampin' Up and Hero Arts. I used a variety of paper scraps for all the cards I made, and still have a mountain of them to use up. Accessories include the daisy punch, tiny flower punch from the dollar store, paper flowers (KM), and brads (JoAnn's)
