Thursday Thirteen #20: State Fair

Our state fair is a great state fair
Don't miss it, don't even be late!
It's dollars to donuts that our state fair
Is the best state fair in our state...

The 156th Wisconsin State Fair opens today and runs through August 12. In honor of that, here are thirteen things you can do at the State Fair.

1. Cream puffs. You can't go to the Wisconsin State Fair without eating at least one cream puff...or six.
2. Eat food on a stick -- corn dogs, pork chops, cheesecake, fried Twinkies...only about 40 different foods from which to choose. Seriously.
3. Go on a few rides. To really make it fun, eat a few of those fried foods first.
4. Try to win cheesy stuffed animals from midway games. Cry and throw a tantrum if you don't win one.
5. Take a stroll through the animal barns--just be careful where you step!
6. Watch the pig races. Try to ignore the fact they are sponsored by Saz's Ribs and Old Wisconsin Sausage. Sure wouldn't want to be the loser in that contest...
7. Take in a stage show or concert.
8. Play bingo or the Wisconsin lottery.
9. Work on your sunburn.
10. Eschew the beer garden for some wine and cheese tasting.
11. Check out the textile, craft and culinary exhibits.
12. Watch the daily parade. Starts near the sheep barn. Again, watch your step.
13. Enter the Moo-La-Palooza Mooing Contest.

I don't think NJ has a State Fair--but I went to the Montana State Fair when I visited friends.

Had a BLAST! Did everything but see a "mooing" contest. But I did get one of those airbrush tattoos. It lasted 4 days. LOL.

Great post! I'm from the Capital of CA, and our state fair is greatly under appreciated. I mean, who doesn't love piglet racing?

I love state fairs. I wish I went to them more often. Did the MN state fair before I left up there. I was a trip! Loved it.

The Texas state fair is huge for its cookoffs. And yes, the food. *sigh* Maybe next year I'll get to go.

Heck, I'd just do the the first thing on the list 13 times. Of course, by then I wouldn't even NEED to go on one of the rides to make the day interesting. LOL

Great list, Trix! Makes me wish I could go to a fair like that.

Wow, it's been years since I attended a state fair. I'll have to do that when the kids get a little older.

Gina~ Yup, they have a mooing contest Aug 11 and Elle? I am not entering the mooing contest. Might be fun to see, though. lol

Rhonda~ Should I have warned everyone to get snacks before directing them ehre this week? Hehe...

Lila & Adelle~ I've seen the piglet races at our local county fair (held only a few miles from me), and it is indeed hilarious watching them run for that cookie!

Rae~ So how soon can I expect you? LOL - I couldn't get your pics to load earlier, will have to try again in a bit. Can't wait for football!

Jana~ LOL... The cream puffs are reason enough for attending. You can buy them in six packs to take home but in this heat...they wouldn't stand a chance. Provided they even made it to your car. hehe....

I would love to listen to that mooing contest. I love the rat race. They let you bet on a color and then if the rat runs into your hole you win a stuffed animal! Whooo Hooo, free junk,

You surely introduced me to the state fair in Wisconsin. If only I could have been there to enter the mooing contest. I think I might have been able to win that one.
