Thursday Thirteen #31: Non-Scary Halloween Movies

I admit it: I’ve never been partial to horror movies. In fact, I refuse to watch them. So while many people tend to reach for the latest disc featuring blood and gore on Halloween, I prefer more benign offerings. Here are my pics for some of the best non-scary Halloween movies.

1. It’s The Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown! (A must-see classic)
2. Casper
3. Hocus Pocus
4. Bedknobs & Broomsticks
5. Harry Potter (Take your pick!)
6. Ghostbusters (Who ya gonna call?)
7. Young Frankenstein (A campy, cult classic)
8. The Uninvited (1944; Film noire at its best)
9. Ghost
10. The Sixth Sense (One of the best surprise endings ever!)
11. Beetlejuice
12. Practical Magic (okay, so it has its dark moments—it’s still not as bad as slasher flicks.)
13. Phantom of the Opera

I'm with you. No horror movies for me. I'm coming to watch movies at your house!

You and me both, Heather. I HATE scary movies, but these are PERFECT. And we watch them at my house. I also like "The Ghost And Mrs. Muir".
"The Uninvited" is AWESOME. One of my favs.
Great list.

I think I'm the only one on the planet who doesn't like Halloween - well, except for the candy.

I am another non-horror person. My brain too easily conjures up images from the movies at night. Even The Sixth Sense was a little too far on the horror side for me.

Love Harry Potter and Ghostbusters!

Oh, yeah!! The Sixth Sense is perfect for Halloween--creepy and cool, but not scary.

And love #1, too. "I got a rock."

Great list! I think I'll run out and get Young Frankenstein for the kids.

Bedknobs & Broomsticks! Ooh, I have to see if I can find that somewhere and watch it again.

Now, there's something that can date me... Bed knobs and broomsticks. I loved that movie growing up!!!

I LOVE The Sixth Sense, but I did find it pretty creepy. All those dead people, *shiver*

I'm glad I'm not the only one who dislikes scary movies. I usually feel in the minority on this topic!

Tempest~ Ah, ah, ah...nobody says the "B" word. *g*

Jenn M~ Oh, I had forgotten The Ghost and Mrs. Muir. I haven't seen that in ages. Glad someone else here has seen and loved The Uninvited. It's my kind of Gothic ghost story!

Adelle~ LOL -- if nothing else kids are the perfect excuse for watching our childhood faves.

Morgan~ I think B & B can date a lot of people, LOL.

I'm right there with you, babe. I love all of these for fun but not bloody Halloween diversions!

I'm ant-slasher films, (although love certain vampire films so blood is okay without gore), so your list is great. I'd add the animated film The Halloween Tree. It's based on the Ray Bradbury book of the same name and he's even the Narrator for it.

Xakara~ I don't think I've ever heard of The Halloween Tree. Will have to look for that one!

Awesome list, Heather! It's the music that gets to me more than anything else. DH makes fun of me, so he and DD (10) watch them without me and DS (9).

Thanks for sharing!

Oh I love beetlejuice! And forgot all about Hocus Pocus, I've got that taped somewhere :)

*LOL* You're my kind of Halloween movie bud! Hooray for Hocus Pocus and Harry Potter!
