Oval Cross-stitch Ornaments

This is how I spent part of my Thanksgiving day. Not the stitching or assembling of, as that was done over the past year, but adding hangers to about 50 different ornaments. All of these oval ornaments received ribbon hangers, which wasn't easy to do; the needle had to push through three layers (the Aida cloth they were stitched on, plus two layers of felt).
The ornaments are from a pattern book and are stitched on 14 count Aida. Probably the most difficult part was cutting out all those ovals so that they weren't too lopsided. The layers are fused together with Lite Steam-A-Seam2: Aida, LSAS2, White felt, LSAS2, Colored felt backing. The LSAS2 is a sort of glue in "paper" form that fuses layers of material together without the mess of regular glue, and it's more durable. I wish I'd heard of it years ago!

Interesting that you do or did the same thing on the holidays. My one daughter, Melissa, does a lot of cross stitching. You were both on my sendai-shi.blogspot.com the same day and commented about the scrapbook photos.

I also write. Books, workbooks, newspaper and magazine articles and did one 13-week television show and then hosted it or was the host. For Parker Pen Ltd.

What a wonderful way to spend Thanksgiving Day. Did you talk while you worked or did you hole up somewhere to be alone?

Thanks Lucinda! I've been doing counted cross-stitch at least 2/3 my life. I do a lot of ornaments (such as these and others I'll be posting), as well as a few larger projects each year. You should see the series of black cats I've been doing for a friend!

Hi Annie! I mostly worked on finishing these and others while watching the Green Bay Packers beat the Detroit Lions, followed by a holiday movie.

I've never been one to just veg in front of the TV, so am usually either stitching or stamping while indulging. I finished making my Christmas cards and wrote about half of them out while watching a couple programs this afternoon. Still a couple more stitching projects to complete before Christmas, but I seem to be well ahead of schedule. Of course, three weeks from now I'll be wondering where the time went! lol
