Thursday Thirteen 84: Thanksgiving

My sister and I went shopping for Thanksgiving dinner this past weekend. She volunteered to pay for everything provided I cook it. Guess my turkey last year was pretty good afterall! Here's what was on our shopping list and we'll be eating next Thursday.

My husband usually works Thanksgiving night so we have a pretty low key Thanksgiving but we always have the typical turkey, dressing and he can fix a mean batch of mashed potatoes. He loves cranberries (yuck) and I love black olives (this is where he would say yuck) so those are must-haves for us.

Happy TT!

Hi Aly, I see we have the same dilemma with the olives and cranberries. My BIL has to have cranberry sauce, the rest of us prefer the black olives. Hence the two cans--one for before dinner, one for during. LOL

LOL - nothing since we don't celebrate Thanksgiving in NZ. Have fun though. I bet your dinner will be yummy!

We don't do Thanksgiving in Italy, so I'll just have to daydream about turkey, ham, stuffing and potatoes and my mother's peanut butter pie.

...sigh...

I miss home at this time of year.

happy tt!

Thanksgiving? We're having Thanksgiving? I thought we skipped that and Halloween and went straight to Christmas. *walks away scratching head* LOL!

I have yet to make a thanksgiving dinner. Actually, I wrote about it for my T13 today.

You mean cans of black olives? Cause I get this mental image of two little olives sitting together on a big tray looking all lonely and abandoned. :]

Mine is sooooooo much longer. Thanksgiving is an all day, snacks from morning until night, next day leftover special event.
I make homemade mashed taters and green bean casserole and homemade dinner rolls.
Black olives and cranberry sauce is a must. Yeah, I buy a LOT of food. Then again, we'll have about fourteen people to feed.

Cool TT! Totally gotta have turkey! My Tt is all about Thanksgiving, too!

Cool list.

Never heard of having black olives at Thanksgiving. We do the cranberry sauce, though.

I'm still undecided as to what all I'm contributing but the list will be short. I'm glad we do a pot-luck style and no one person is responsible for all the food. A) there's more food and B) there's bigger variety of cooking expertise. We usually end up with two or three different dressings (stuffing) several veggies, LOTS of desserts, two or three different kinds of rolls--just a plethora of food. And I rarely ever have to take home left overs! Yay!

We've already had our Thanksgiving in Canada. Looks like my list though. Happy Turkey Day!

Thanks Shelley!

Ms Menozzi - I think if I was a displaced American I would still have to have the feast every year around this time, and share it with new friends and family.

Stephanie - GMTA, eh? *G*

Nina - No, we definitely had Halloween, though you'd never know by all the Christmas decorations that Thanksgiving was yet to come. Sad how it gets lost in the retail shuffle these days, isn't it?

Kristi - Though I have helped prepare many a T'giving dinner, last year was my first turkey. It was tres delicieux!

Alice - *Snort* Of course I mean cans. Trust me, wars have been fought over the last two olives left on the tray.

Jennifer - Soooo glad there won't be fourteen people in my house! You can keep the green bean casserole, too. Why ruin a perfectly good bean?

Paige - I think the turkey is what I look forward to most. There were a couple years when it was just me and my mom when I didn't get turkey, or all the wonderful leftovers, and I really missed that.

Jana - We have always had black olives on the relish trays at Thanksgiving and Christmas. We used to have green ones for Dad, too. Now, we eliminate the carrots and celery no one eats and just do double olives. LOL

Thanks Adelle! :]

My sister is hosting Thanksgiving this year, so I don't have to shop. Yeah! But your list sounds good, I'm getting hungry for Thanksgiving already.

Happy TT!

I avoid the traditional. Stop by my house for some spinach lasagna, melon medley and apple cake!

Heather said...

Mary - Lucky you! My mouth is beginning to water for that turkey already too. Hope you have a great time at your sister's!

Inez - Spinach lasagna for Thanksgiving?! That is soooo wrong! :]

Hehehe! I'm sure it was a great dinner judging by the list. ;)

Savannah Chase said...

good luck, we already had turkey day in Oct...

Heather said...

Tempest - Haven't had it yet, just did the shopping. Can't wait for next week, though!

Savannah - Thanks! Last year worked out pretty good, even with my miniscule kitchen, so will hopefully have the same luck this year!

No Thanksgiving celebrated in Australia! I think it is a great idea...that list made for a very convenient TT. Happy TT! :)

Eaton - Yes, it definitely made for a convenient and easy T13 topic. Gotta love those weeks when a subject comes to you so easily! *g*

RJ and Lori - Thank you! :]

What no lefsa, no pecan pie? Although I see you listed my favorite Pumpkin Pie. Great post.
Hope you and your family have a wonderful Thanksgiving.

Um, no. My family may be of Nordic extract, but we're not that Norwegian. LOL - Happy Thanksgiving!
