Thursday Thirteen 121: Movies to Watch

I love movies. Unfortunately, I don't get to the theater for recent releases as often as I'd like, so usually end up with a long list of movies I want to see. I also love old movies, particularly the kind of classics TCM is known for, especially those B&W film noir. I'm always taping something off of TCM to watch later, except later is often a long time coming, eventually resulting in marathon movie weekends when I need to make room to record more. Here are thirteen movies recorded during the last couple months that I have not yet got round to watching. Methinks we need a long, rainy weekend so I can catch up again!

1. The Good Earth (1937)
2. The 400 Blows (1959)
3. Holiday (1938)
4. An American in Paris (1951)
5. The Jazz Singer (1927)
6. The Apartment (1960)
7. The Canterville Ghost (1946)
8. The Right Stuff (1983)
9. High Noon (1952)
10. Spellbound (1945)
11. Marnie (1964)
12. The 39 Steps (1935)
13. Crisis (1950)

Are there any movies you've recently recorded (or bought) that you have yet to watch?

I can't believe I'm saying this, but I haven't seen any of those. LOL I really need to start watching more movies. Happy Thursday!

Oh, there's a movie for The Good Earth?? I just read the book earlier this year and loved it! Now I gotta get this movie! =)

Stephanie - S'okay, I haven't seen any of them either...yet. ;)

Betty - Yes, there is. I confess, although it's been in my TBR pile for years, I've yet to read it. Hmm...probably should before watching the movie, huh? Thanks for visiting!

So many 13ers are doing movie lists, and I haven't seen any of them! And I considered myself a movie buff.

Alice Audrey said...

The Right Stuff is the only one I've seen. It's a good one.

I remember watching the Canterville Ghost. I keep meaning to watch the two latest James Bond movies. I haven't seen them yet.

Hazel said...

They all came out looong before I was born, and I saw only one of them - The Canterville Ghost which I watched 3 times because I liked it very match.

Ella Drake said...

I have the latest Bourne movie on my shelf and still haven't watched it. Great list!

Jennifer McKenzie said...

I've seen all of those except "400 blows".
I've BOUGHT movies I haven't broken out of their cellophane yet. LOL.
I love "Fifth Avenue Girl" with Ginger Rodgers. I have that one recorded on tape. It's about worn out.
And "Holiday" is one of my favorites.

I love movies. Maybe I'll check some of these out. Thanks.

I haven't seen any of these either. Shame on me. I'll have to check some of them out. Thanks for posting!

I don't like old movies at all, which is why I've never seen any of those! LOL!

I don't think I've seen any of these. Maybe the Jazz singer years ago.
I want to rent My Sisters' Keeper real bad. Maybe this weekend.

Happy T13! I hope you find the time to watch them all.

I think I've only seen the Holiday.

Great list!

I'm soooo behind with movies but just picked up RENT. I wanted to see it for the longest time, then forgot.

Great list!

Happy TT.

I'm crazy about old movies, but I think 39 steps and Marnie and High Noon are the only ones I've seen of those.

Now I'll go hang my head in shame.

I'm not much for watching movies at home, so I don't really have a "to be watched" list.

I recently rewatched Operation Petticoat, which may be the funniest war movie ever made. Stars Cary Grant, among others. Then again, you can't go far wrong with Cary Grant.

Jenn - Guess it was a week for movies, lol!

Alice - I taped that the night of the moon walk anniversary, but have not got round to it yet. It looked really good.

Shelley - I've been wanting to see this one for ages. Maybe I'll just save it for Halloween. I haven't seen the last two Bond movies, either.

Hazel - Okay, maybe I won't wait until Halloween to watch it. *VBG*

Ella - What?! How can you not have watched that yet? I LOVE the Bourne trilogy! Jason Bourne is the epitome of the tortured antihero. *Sigh*

Heather said...

Jennifer - I bow to the queen of old movies! I'll have to watch for "5th Avenue Girl" to come on TCM. I also admit to buying movies I've not yet opened. There are one or two of those in the movie queue as well.

Brenda and Cambria - I hope you find a couple from my list that interest you!

Paige - *Gasp* How can anyone not like old movies? Trust me when I say most of the crap put out these days pales in comparison.

Adelle - I've wanted to see "Jazz Singer" since a college film crit class, but it's one of those you really need to be in the mood for. "My Sister's Keeper" looks good, but isn't that still in theaters?

Heather said...

Just Me - Looks like "Holiday" and "Canterville" are high on peoples' lists!

Mary - I haven't seen the movie version of "Rent," but did see the musical a few years back and liked it.

Flicka - Yay! Another old movie buff.

Elise - Definitely cannot go wrong with Cary Grant. *Sigh* You'll note a couple on my list to watch are movies of his I've previously missed. TCM had a CG film fest last Saturday. Some I'd seen several times before, and others I'd never heard of. I was in HEAVEN!

David Bridger said...

I love old movies, especially noir!

I bought Slumdog Millionaire months ago and haven't even unwrapped the dvd yet.

I've seen most of those. I love Spellbound. My husband is an old movie buff. The older, the better in his eyes.

And yes, you can never go wrong with Cary Grant. :)

Happy T13!

Alexia Reed said...

I haven't seen any of those. :( They sound interesting tho by the title.

Heather said...

David - "Slumdog" is actually pretty good, but best seen on a large screen - there are some subtitles at beginning of the movie that are hard to read on a regular TV screen.

Jamie - Yay, another Cary Grant fan. Sounds like you, hubby and I would get along so far as movie tastes go. ;)

Alexia - I hope you decide to check out one or two of the titles that intrigued you. Thanks for visiting!

RosettaStone said...

Like some of the others, I haven't seen any of them! :( I also haven't watched any movies since Harry Potter 6 came out (so double frowns for me). Ah well - your list gave me some ideas on what to watch next!

Unknown said...

I think you left off "12 Angry Men." That seems like it would go with the rest of the list. Have you seen it? Henry Fonda gives a stellar performance!

Heather said...

Rosetta - If you've seen HP6, you're doing better than I am. I still haven't got to that one. Hopefully this weekend. I really want to see it while it's still in theaters.

Yvette - Nope, did not forget "12 Angry Men" as I have actually seen that, even have it on DVD. That one is definitely a keeper! These are just some of the movies I've recorded but haven't had time to watch yet.

Latesha said...

LOL You know I've never seen any of these movies before. But I see a few that I would like to.

Heather said...

I have actually watched two of the thirteen now -- SPELLBOUND and CRISIS.
