Monday Movie Meme: Good Vibrations

This week's theme is movies about music. Believe it or not, only three came to mind not mentioned on The Bumbles blog.

* The Commitments (1991) ~ I love this movie, and the soundtrack totally rocks! The travails of Jimmy Rabbitte to form the "World's Hardest Working Band," The Commitments, and bring soul music to the people of Dublin, Ireland.

* Mr. Holland's Opus (1995) ~ Another classic. A frustrated composer finds fulfillment as a high school music teacher.

* The Sound of Music (1965) ~ Our family used to watch this together every year -- you know, back when they made an event out of only showing it once a year instead of every other week.

I listed the Sound of Music as well, plus some great documentaries. I could have gone on forever with this one!

You were right to include The Sound of Music! It was the professional Von Trapp Family Singers that managed to save the family from the Nazis! How could I have forgotten?

Ok, I have seen The Sound of Music. What About That Thing You Do with Tom Hanks? Haven't seen it, but think it's about a musical group and there's always Dreamgirls. Not that I've seen these, either.

L - I can't beleive I missed That Thing You Do. Love that movie and song. I have not yet seen Dreamgirls, though.

Mr. Holland's Opus does have a nice soundtrack--I'd forgotten about that one. I included sound of music too. Kaye—the road goes ever ever on

Good list (though I've not seen Mr. Holland's Opus). Great choice with The Commitments, if I'd have thought of it I'd have included it in my list too.

The Sound of Music was a favorite of mine growing up. I forced Andy to watch it when we started dating and although he was prepared to be miserable, he was pleasantly surprised that he already knew most of the songs and that there was actually action and Nazis and exciting suspense in the plot!
