Thursday Thirteen 161: 13 More Books

Thirteen more books...
Click on any cover to find out more about the book.

** Nancy Atherton was the May author of the month for the Cozy Mystery Group at GoodReads. I had read the first book, Aunt Dimity's Death a couple years previously and though I meant to read more in the series, never got round to it until now.

** Aaron Elkins was the June author of the month for the Cozy Mystery Group at GoodReads. First time reading him, but definitely not the last!

What are you reading this week?

LOVE the collection! ;)

I haven't read the latest Sookie Stackhouse. Did you like it?

Heather said...

Mariposa: Thank you, I really enjoyed this batch of books!

Jehara: Yes, I did enjoy it. It's not as action-packed as previous books, esp the first 3/4 of it, but it does tie up a few loose ends.

I remember your teaser from Cut to the Corpse. That was fun.

Heather said...

Alice: Thanks, I really like that series. I'll have teasers for some of the others mentioned here in the weeks ahead. ;)

Shelley Munro said...

I have Annette Blair's first book in my to-read pile. I'm looking forward to reading it.

Hazel said...

I'd love to have Aunt Dimity and the Duke and Cut to the Corpse in my hands right now.

Right now I'm reading a book titled, Skin by Ted Dekker.
I haven't read any of the ones on your list. So much books....so little time lol
Happy T13!

More to add to my TBR list, eh? The title "Cut to the Corpse" being paired with such a cute cover really raised my brow.

I haven't read any of those yet, although I'm sure I'll get to the Betsy book sooner or later.

I've got the first six episodes of True Blood waiting for me on the table. Would I like the TV series or the books better? I actually read the first one but was so bummed out it was the first of a series, I never read another. (I prefer to find series when they're already finished, or at least well established, so I have plenty of them to read. Instant gratification syndrome, ya know!)

Paige Tyler said...

Never heard of any of them, but the Mary Jane Davidson books sound cool!

*hugs*

Shelley: Annette Blair is a new-to-me author with an extensive backlist. I just lucked onto a copy of her newest "Vintage Magic" book, Death by Diamonds at the UBS, as well as three of her witch books. Naturally each of the witch books are from a different trilogy. *Rolls eyes*

Hazel: I love Aunt Dimity! As you can tell, I'm working my way through that series. Hopefully the latest will be in paperback by the time I get to it! ;)

Adelle: I've never read Dekker, but his newest, The Bride Collector, has been calling to me. Looks really good!

Heather said...

Colleen: So very true - though getting rid of cable has certainly made for a lot more reading time. *G*

Brenda: Sookie fans unite! *grin*

Shash: Turn off the TV, pick a book, and join the reading pool! ;)

Tatiana: LOL...my apologies for being such an enabler. As for Cut to the Corpse, it's a "cozy" mystery by Berkley Prime Time, which is known for titles with such clever play on words. I love 'em!

I'm on the 4th book of the Chalene Harris Sookie Stackhouse series.

Robin: I hear your pain and impatience where series are concerned. I've now read all ten Sookie books (and the related book of short stories, A Touch of Dead), and was glad that I started the series just as book 8 came out in PB and 9 in HC as I literally read the first eight in two weeks. Now having to wait a year between books is agony!

As for the HBO series, I've only seen the first season of True Blood on DVD. It was okay, but I much prefer the books. The writing of the series is pretty good, and the first season started out following the first book pretty faithfully - but then they changed stuff in the last couple eps of season one that completely change later events in the series, and the series is A LOT more graphic. I know some people prefer the TV series while some love both, but me personally - I'd rather stay with the books.

Izzybella said...

Oh, you have three of my favorite series listed (Sookie, Aunt Dimity, and Queen Betsy)!! Nice list.

I couldn't get into the Lily Bard series though. I read it when I was in the mood for fluffy and it is not so much fluffy.

Heather said...

Paige: I think you'd like MaryJanice Davidson's series, epsecially vampire king Eric Sinclair. Start with Undead and Unwed. ;)

Elise: A little, yes. But I have read at least four romances in the last few weeks, I swear! They'll be on the next post like this, LOL.

Inez: Aren't they? I love the different artwork, and how it can depict the type of story within or denote a certain series. And ROFL at your word ver. Something you're not telling us?? *WEG*

Jill: I hope you are enjoying your forrary into the Sookie series!

Hi Izzybella! As you can probably tell, those are three of my favorite series, too. I just finished the Lily Bard series. Quick reads, though definitely not light reading. I did enjoy it, though.

Jennifer Leeland said...

Ooooh new stuff. I've been on a S.S. Van Dine kick and I'm not sure why. (Speaking of cozy mysteries)
This is great.

Heather said...

Jennifer: Glad you like - hope some of these are to your taste! Have never read (or heard of SS Van Dine. Guess I'll have to look that one up!

Heather said...

Darla: LOL...thank you! ;)

Kristen said...

Wow! These are all new to me. I am going to have to come back when I have time and investigate them more thoroughly. This week I read "the curious incident of the dog in the night time." by Mark Haddon.

Sasha Devlin said...

Those Elkin books have potential. Thanks for the suggestions!

Stephanie Bennett said...

Great list. I've never heard of these books before. Thanks for the heads up. Happy Thursday! :)

Kristen: Hope you get the chance to check out some of these a bit further. Have heard a lot about Haddon's book, but have not read it (yet) myself. I hope you enjoyed it!

Sasha: I'm liking what I've read of Elkin so far. He has three different series, but for now I'm sticking with the Gideon Oliver "skeleton detective" series. There's more than a dozen and I'm only up to book three!

Stephanie: Thank you, I hope you'll check out a few of them. Thanks for visiting!

Alice Audrey said...

I'll be watching for them.
