Autumn White Vervain

White Vervain in Autumn. I thought it pretty in summer, but think these autumn-dried sprigs even more spectacular.

They look like something my mother would use in one of her flower arrangements. How do you know all this horticulture stuff? Been reading the little plaques?

Oddly, there are no little plaques in the Grady Tract section as there are the main body of the Arboretum. I have, however, taken a few of their guided walks this year. There's an effigy mounds one coming up this month I hope to get to.

That could be cool. The biggest problem with mounds, though is that it's hard to get a really good shot of them.

Yeah, effigy mounds are interesting, but don't make for good photo ops unless you have the means for aerial photography. Which I don't. However, I thought the accompanying lecture might make it worth while.

And shoot--I thought that walk was in October but just checked my calendar and see that one is actually in mid-November. So, we'll see what the weather is like that day before committing. There are other walks coming up in October, though.
