Thursday Thirteen 178: Recently Read

The last thirteen books read...
(Click cover to read more about a particular book)

* Rett MacPherson was recommended to me by Jana a couple years ago. I finally got round to reading Family Skeletons (book 1) and A Veiled Antiquity (book 2) of her Torie O'Shea series for a November "family" themed challenge in the Cozy Mysteries group. I like what I've read of this series so far, and have two more on the shelf. They are good, fast reads.

* Susan Wittig Albert was the Ocotber featured author in the Cozy Mysteries group. This was the second in her Beatrix Potter series and as enjoyable as the first.

* Madelyn Alt was read as part of the October "Halloween" theme challenge. Read the first three books in this series, and have books 4 and 5 on the shelf, which I will probably get to when book 6 comes out in paperback in January.

* Night of the Living Deed and The Ghost and Mrs. McClure were two really good mystery ghost stories. They were also read for the "Halloween" theme challenge.

* The other theme challenge for October was a paper-crafts one, in honor of National Cardmaking Day the first Saturday of the month. My choice was book three in Terri Thayer's "Stamping Sisters" mystery series, False Impressions.

* Ann Voss Peterson is one of my favorite local writers (and yes, I have actually met her!). Wyoming Manhunt was won last month in a blog contest. It was a good romantic suspense that kept me turning the pages late into the night.

* Cathie Linz is another romance author I know. I thought I had read Lone Star Marine years ago, until I came across it in the TBR pile. Oops! It was another fast read, and good to (finally) finish that series. Luck Be a Lady is Cathie's most recent single title, and was featured as this week's Teaser Tuesday.

* Why? Because We Still Like You was a GoodReads win. I don't usually read biography, but I remember watching reruns of the original Mickey Mouse Club with my sisters when we were kids, so it was interesting to read about the show and its pint-sized stars.

Read anything good lately?

This looks like a great list. I've been doing so much writing lately that I haven't read much of anything. I did read the Harry Potter series back in August though. First time I'd ever read those. Read all seven books in less than a month. :)

I'm still reading a lot of historical romances when I have time to read. Writing is keeping me busy at present. I'll have to check out the Beatrix Potter series. I liked her other series.

Nice list. How was "Why? Because We Still Like You." Thanks for sharing.

Stephanie: You read all seven HP books in one month? I bow to you. I still have the last three to get through...sometime.

Shelley: I've sort of stalled in my goal to read at least twelve historicals this year. Need to try to work three more in before end of year. *whimper*

Rekayah: Why? Because We Still Like You was an okay read, especially for someone like me who doesn't read much biography. It talks about how the show was conceived, how the cast was assembled, what they did after the show and are doing today, and a lot of behind the scenes stuff.

I remembered a few of the names from the show: Annette, Tommy, Darlene, Doreen, Cheryl, Sharon, Cubby...but not others. For example, my sisters and I also used to watch reruns of My Three Sons, and I have no idea two of the sons (Tim Considine and Don Grady) had been Mouseketeers.

If you like biography, are a Disney fanatic, or are/were a fan of the show, I'd say it would be worth checking out.

I haven't read anything in awhile. I usually reward myself with time to read after an MS is complete. I'm halfway through my NaNoWriMo, so soon. Happy T13!

I gotta read some Susan Wittig Albert! Ahhhh I love your list!

Great list! I'll have to check out some of these books! I love reading but have fallen off the reading train after the birth of my 3rd. I find it hard to even finish a couple pages when I used to be able to sit and read an entire book without interruption!

The last book I read )I don't read nearly as much as I would like to!) was Play of Passion by Nalini Singh. I've heard that not as many people liked this one, but I enjoyed it.

I'm recommending One Thousand White Women by Jim Fergus these days. Check it out if you haven't already.

Adelle: Wow, you're halfway through NaNo already? Way to go you!

Hazel: Thank you! I've only tried the one series by Susan Wittig Albert so far, but have liked what I read. I have book two in another series by her, but can't seem to find book one anywhere locally. Maybe I need to add that one to my Christmas wish list! ;)

Danielle: I hear kids will do that to you, LOL. While they can take up a lot (most!) of your time, it's also important to carve out a little time for yourself, and personal sanity.

Maddy: I've heard a lot about Nalini Singh, but have never read any of her books. Perhaps some day...

Anita: I've seen that one in the Doubleday Books catalog for years but while it does sound good, it never seems to call to me. Another for the "some day" list!

You read so fast, and here I am teasering the same books multiple weeks because I got nothing else. At least I finally finished Bonk.

Alice: What?! You finally finished Bonk? Say it isn't so! And honestly, I don't feel like I am a fast reader, more of an average one.

Paige: Wyoming Manhunt was a good one! It's an older Intrigue (2008), but worth seeking out.

Harriet: Thank you, I hope there was something here that caught your interest!

Oh wow!!! Those Madelyn Alt titles look awesome and so does the biography.
Great list.

Heather said...

Thanks, Jennifer! The Alt books are pretty good. I like that we learn a little bit about Wicca and Magick in each one.

What an inspiration! I need to get off the computer and go read.

I haven't read a single book on your list! I have a few books stacked on my desk which I purchased last month...and still need to read.

Heather said...

Darla and Sam: What are you waiting for? Get to reading! *g*

Cheryl said...

Great list! I have never read the Ghost and Mrs. McClure but it was a favorite movie of mine when i was a kid. There are some titles on there I will definitely need to check out.

Alice Audrey said...

Well, I always knew I was slow.

Don't you dare agree with me. :)

Heather said...

Hi Cheryl! I think the movie you are thinking of is The Ghost and Mrs. Muir. Two completely different entities, though I can see how it would be easy to confuse the two.

Alice: Not saying a word. That doesn't mean I won't think it, though. ;-D
