Teaser Tuesday 63: A Cop in Her Stocking

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading. Anyone can play along! Just do the following:

* Grab your current book or recent read.
* Share a few “teaser” sentences from somewhere in the book.
* BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (Make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away. You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
* Share the title and author so that other participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teaser!

Finished Tuesday night. Good Christmas-themed suspense, and book two for the Christmas Reading Challenge. This is from page 52:

The monitor went dark.

A surge of panic slammed through her. She clicked again, and the loud buzz of an alarm split the air.

Now, doesn't that make you wonder what our heroine is up to? *WEG*

About the book:
A Cop in Her Stocking by Ann Voss Peterson
Genre: Romantic Suspense

Tyler Davis comes from a long line of cops, and he's learned the hard way that police work and families don't mix. But his solitary life is about to be called into question with the return of Megan Garvey, the woman he once loved...and lost.

Now, Megan is determined to keep her emotional distance—though it's clear that she and the rugged lawman still share something special. But a predator has come to Lake Hubbard for Christmas. And when Megan's young son disappears, there's only one cop to believe in. This holiday, Ty has been given a second chance to be the hero Megan needs...if he can bring her boy home alive.

Here's my teaser

Jennifer: Nope...I'd say not. *g*

BookishSnob: Wasn't an alarm clock. Much, much worse than an alarm clock (though I know it's difficult to believe any other kind of alarm could be worse, LOL).

What a suspenseful teaser! This sounds like a good one. (Must add to my wishlist!) I have two teasers this week. My YA teaser is from Trickster's Girl by Hilari Bell and my adult teaser is from Wolfsbane by Patricia Briggs. Happy reading!

Haha funny title. My teaser is at The Crowded Leaf.

Alice: Hehe...maybe? *WEG*

BlackEyedDog: Just a little one. ;)

Gautami: Thanks! *G*

Laurel-Rain: Yup, could be about time for the cavalry to ride in...so to speak. ;)

Kathy: Thanks, I thought these few lines (the end of a chapter, no less!) a perfect teaser. *vbg*

Alayne: Yeah, I'm not incredibly fond of Harlequin titles, though they do a bit better in the suspense line, and have some great Intrigue authors. AVP is not only a favorite, but a local writer as well.

Here is my teaser from Witchgrass: A Pipe Dream by Dave Wilkinson (Page 1):

Most gardeners hate witchgrass. Of all weeds it is one of the most persistent and adaptable. Any small piece of rhizome left in the soil can become an aggressive plant ready to take over the plot. Witchgrass is hard to pull. Roots are deep, and break off easily. Any part left in the ground will grow again. Farmers say the species isn't even good as hay, not as good as timothy or alfalfa. Some call it quickgrass.

Early New England colonists blamed evil people for this garden invader. In the seventeenth century villagers would speak this way:

"The surly woman living alone on her dead husband's estate. She goes into the woods and consorts with the Devil. Signs his book. Fornicates with him. Eats mushrooms. She and the Devil send witchgrass to harass the virtuous and the Godly. Let us hang this witch and seize her rich farm."

LMW: Thanks, it was indeed delicious--and there weren't even any sex scenes (though plenty of sexual tension)! *G*
