Thursday Thirteen 187: Food Quotes

I had a lot of ideas for this week, but some didn't fit the season, and I've been too busy this week for other ideas, so...I dug around and came up with thirteen quotes about food. Bon appetit!

* Vegetables are a must on a diet. I suggest carrot cake, zucchini bread, and pumpkin pie. (Jim Davis)

* Life expectancy would grow by leaps and bounds if green vegetables smelled as good as bacon. (Doug Larson)

* Cheese—milk's leap toward immortality. (Clifton Fadiman)

* Strawberries are the angels of the earth, innocent and sweet with green leafy wings reaching heavenward. (Terri Guillemets)

* We should look for someone to eat and drink with before looking for something to eat and drink. (Epicurus)

* Good bread is the most fundamentally satisfying of all foods; good bread with fresh butter, the greatest of feasts! (James Beard)

* Part of the secret of success in life is to eat what you like and let the food fight it out inside. (Mark Twain)

* The story of barbecue is the story of America: Settlers arrive on great unspoiled continent, discover wondrous riches, set them on fire and eat them. (Vince Staten)

* In general, mankind, since the improvement in cookery, eats twice as much as nature requires. (Benjamin Franklin)

* Large, naked raw carrots are acceptable as food only to those who lie in hutches eagerly awaiting Easter. (Fran Lebowitz)

* A converted cannibal is one who, on Friday, eats only fishermen. (Emily Lotney)

* Avoid fruit and nuts. You are what you eat. (Jim Davis)

* Great food is like great sex. The more you have the more you want. (Gael Greene)

BONUS:
* If life gives you limes, make margaritas. (Jimmy Buffett)

lol "only fishermen".

I agree with quote about the bread and butter - especially home made bread with butter and just a splash of vinegar infused with chili peppers. Yum!

And you are making me want bacon!

Am very faithful to #1. Great list, happy T13!

LOL - I loved these. A couple of them made me chuckle.

Now I'm hungry. I need to bake some bread. Tragically, I lack tasty butter. Hmmmm...

Happy TT!

I love those quotes; actually, I love just about anything having to do with food. :)

These are all good. I wonder if Jim Davis is a comic rather than a cook. I like the bonus one too.

James Beard is right. Fresh baked bread is the ultimate good.
I love these and Jim Davis is a crack up.

Measi: *waving back*

Alice: It does, doesn't it? *g*

Bratty: Mmm...now you have me thinking about a bacon sandwich on homemade bread. Sigh... Store bought will have to do.

Mercy: I'm not big on zucchini bread, but I had that veggie plenty of other ways last summer.

Heather said...

Shelley: A couple of them make me chuckle, too. Personally, I could really go for some warm homemade bread and a margarita. ;)

Kimberly: Bake some for me while you're at it, 'kay? *g*

Darla: Thank you. :)

AllStarMe: LOL... Happy to make your day.

Colleen: Jim Davis is the creator of the comic strip Garfield. ;)

Heather said...

Jennifer: Can't go wrong with fresh baked bread and the creator of Garfield the Cat. *g*

Xakara: Glad to make you smile!

Dexie: LOL...I take it you approve? *g*

Virginia: Thank you. The bread quote seems to resonate most here, doesn't it, lol?

Heather said...

Mary: Thank you. I think Twain has something to say on every subject. *g*

Paige: Thanks! Of course, the grand irony in the Franklin quote is that he was rather er...corpulent...himself, lol.

Anita: Not at all. Just testing your will power. *vbg*

Forgetfulone: You'll never go hungry as long as you can afford bread. *g*
