Random Photo: Surprise

I noticed this fresh shoot growing in the pot of my dragon tree and gigantic fern earlier last Monday. Based on the leaves, I'd say it is probably another fern. Funny, for years all the growth was by the dragon tree, with the fern straggling along. Now this past year, the fern has really taken off. It's more than half the height of the dragon tree now and just keeps going. I swear every couple months there's a new frond growing on it. And now it seems to have reproduced. Oy! I think I'm going to have to dig this one up while it's still small and transplant it. There's barely enough space in the pot as it is!

The photo reminds me of spring with new shoots everywhere.

I need a dragon tree so I can talk about it and be all, "My dragon is getting so big" and they'll be all, "Dragon? Are you smoking something?" and I can be all, "It's a tree, stupid."

hehehehehe

Good luck with the baby fern! ;-)

Shelley: But there isn't room for it! lol

Jana: ROFLMBO... Believe me, when I finally found out what kind of plant it was, I wanted to throttle my sister. These all came in a small planter labeled as "mixed greens," and were all of about 6 inches high. There was the dragon tree, the itty bitty fern, and another plant that hasn't fared as well and name of which is unknown. Now the dragon tree is about 6 feet and the fern has shot up like crazy this past year, more than two feet tall already. The dragon tree can grow to 7-8 feet tall.

I've got to post pictures of my dragon tree sometime. If it weren't for you, I still wouldn't know what it is.

Alice: Yes, you must pictures of yours so we can compare dragons. And--I only found out what mine was after wandering through nearby Johansen's Greenhouses in an effort to identify this unknown plant. My mom actually had the nerve to laugh when I came home and announced, "It's a freakin' tree!"
