Teaser Tuesday 91: Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading. Anyone can play along! Just do the following:

* Grab your current book or recent read.
* Share a few “teaser” sentences from somewhere in the book.
* BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (Make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away. You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
* Share the title and author so that other participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teaser!

Started book six of the Harry Potter series Saturday afternoon, and made it just about to the midpoint before bed that night. Didn't get as much read Sunday due to a nature outing. I'm currently on page 492 of 652...about 75 percent done. Whew! Almost there...

"Will you give him back his bat and get back to the goal posts!" roared Harry, pelting toward McLaggen just as McLaggen took a ferocious swipe at the Bludger and mishit it.

A blinding sickening pain…a flash of light…distant screams…and the sensation of falling down a long tunnel…

(Pg 415)

The war against Voldemort is not going well; even Muggle governments are noticing. Ron scans the obituary pages of the Daily Prophet, looking for familiar names. Dumbledore is absent from Hogwarts for long stretches of time, and the Order of the Phoenix has already suffered losses.

And yet . . .

As in all wars, life goes on. Sixth-year students learn to Apparate — and lose a few eyebrows in the process. The Weasley twins expand their business. Teenagers flirt and fight and fall in love. Classes are never straightforward, though Harry receives some extraordinary help from the mysterious Half-Blood Prince.

So it's the home front that takes center stage in the multilayered sixth installment of the story of Harry Potter. Here are Hogwarts, Harry will search for the full and complex story of the boy who became Lord Voldemort — and thereby find what may be his only vulnerability.

The only person that irritated me as much as McLaggen was Zacharias Smith in the fifth book!! Love this teaser, Harry gets SO irritated during that match!!

Sharon: Thanks!

Shelley: Thanks, I did. Finished it this afternoon, will start the last one over the upcoming holiday weekend!

Kyanara: Thank you, I'm glad you enjoyed this teaser!

Laurel-Rain: I didn't read any of the books until after I'd seen the first four movies. I'm glad I finally picked them up! They're good, fast reads.

Jennifer G: What's not to love? *g*

Brooke: Though the scene put Harry in danger, I couldn't help laughing out loud when I read it. It's one of those great scenes that helps lighten the growing tension for a moment.

Lea: Thanks, I'm glad you enjoyed rereading this little snippet. This is only my first reading of the books, but I will probably read them all again some day. Maybe when my youngest niece gets a wee bit older. ;)

Heather said...

Suzanne: Glad this brought back good memories of reading the books. This was definitely one of my favorite scenes.

Amy: Thank you, and thanks for stopping by!

Sally: Definitely, LOL!

So... what did you think? Though really, my interest is mostly in the last book.

I love the Harry Potter books! You chose a great teaser! Thanks for visiting mine!

Heather said...

Jenney Q: Thank you, I'm glad people liked this teaser. *g*

Alice: I did like it, though the ending was, of course, a bit sad. Sniff... Having seen all the movies before reading the books, this one seems to have seen the most changes going from book to script. For example, completely rewriting the beginning. I'll be diving into the last one over the upcoming weekend.

Lol. You're probably the last person on earth to read these books. Unless you a rereading them?

Heather said...

Cela: This is a first read for me, and I do know other people over the age of twelve who have not read them, a couple of whom even refuse to read them. Yes, I agree--they don't know what they're missing! ;)
