Thursday Thirteen 226: Recently Read

October was brimming with paranormal reads—as well as a bit of murder and mayhem. And yes, every one of the following was read during the month of October. As always, click on any cover to read a description of the book.

* Alice's Adventures in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll is one of the November group reads (I got an early start) for TNBBC at GoodReads. This was a reread for me, and it's nice to know I still remember some of the poetry.

* The Last Battle by CS Lewis rounded out my (re)read of The Chronicles of Narnia, which I have been working through this year. Some I remembered reading as a kid, some I didn't.

* Don of the Dead and The Chick and the Dead are the first two books in the "Pepper Martin" series by Casey Daniels. Will definitely be reading more of these!

* Leann Sweeney was the October featured author for the GoodReads Cozy Mysteries group. This was a really cute series—definitely one that appeals to crafters and cat-lovers alike.

* The Triplet Witch series by Annette Blair was a sexy and funny paranormal romance trilogy. Skirting the Grave was book four in her Vintage Magic (para-cozy mystery) series.

* Wicked by Gregory Maguire is one of the books mentioned a while back that was on loan from my sister. One down, many more to go.

Wow I wish I read like you. I want to check out those by Leann Sweeney. The cover alone looks very charming already.

I still need to read Wicked, and to hopefully see it as well.

Great list, I was in good company for October paranormal releases. *grin*

I'm so horrible when it comes to reading. It takes me forever to sit long enough just to read one book. LOL You've got a great list there, Heather. Happy Thursday!

My best friend of over thirty years used to go through books like water. She moved away for a few years and when she came back I never saw a book in her hands. I bought the book Wicked for her. She's read the next two and now a day doesn't go by when she's not reading. It makes my heart happy to see it.
Happy T13!

Love Annette! Thanks for sharing. I'll have to add some of these to my TBR pile. Right now I'm re-reading the IN DEATH series from #1.

Gone with the Witch is a good title. I'm curious about what the cat books are like.

Hazel: Thank you. There were two years in the 90s when I somehow managed around 200 books in a year--I have no idea how--followed by a few years when I read only about 50. 80 to 100 feels more normal for the avid reader I have been since kindergarten.

Shelley: You should, LOL! Especially if you enjoy talking about cozies with others (though we do talk other books on occasion as well). I've tried to find a good romance group at GR, to no avail, and then there is TNBBC for books in general.

Lady Rose: Thanks for the book recommendation, I'll certainly look it up and see what I think of it.

Xakara: I would love to see Wicked as well. It was in town last fall, but just couldn't afford it. *sniff*

Stephanie: I read whenever I can find the time, particularly when riding the bus or when I can't sleep at night.

Adelle: Though I have gone through periods of not reading, they usually don't last more than a few weeks. Except the year 2004. For some reason, I have fewer than ten books on that year's list, which is not like me at all. I'm glad your friend started reading again!

Cardidad: I have not read any of the JD Robb books (yet), though I do like Nora Roberts. That woman is too prolific!

Colleen: Gone With the Witch was the most playful of that trilogy. Fair warning though: they contain explicit sex. A lot different from the cat books, which does not (though there is a slight romantic interest).

You read so much faster than I do!

I SO need to read Wicked! I have seen the play a couple times and would love to see if the book with the musical. Thanks for the reminder!

Alice: And yet, there are times I wish I could read faster, LOL.

Jo: It's largely a matter of making time for what matters to you. I watch a lot less TV than I did two years ago and don't have kids, so that also helps.

Gal: I would love to see the musical to see how it compares. Obviously there are some differences, but would like to know more about them.

I always look forward to your book suggestions. Thanks.

Sex and the Psychic Witch- wonder where the idea for that one came from.

Have a great day!

You certainly do read fast! I am behind in my reading thanks to my class load. Oh well, that is what breaks are for!

Heather said...

Brenda: Thank you, always happy to share what I've read. *g*

Harriet: No idea, where the idea came from, but it was a good book.

Anita: My reading definitely suffered during college, even though I was an English major. I much prefer reading what I want to read, rather than having a list imposed on me, LOL.

I loved Wicked - in fact, I just finished re-reading it this week! I always get so emotional at the description of Elphaba's end, too.

Happy (Belated) TT!

Heather said...

Kimberly: Wasn't the end heart-wrenching? It made me emotional, too.

Alice Audrey said...

If I read faster, I'd just have to work harder coming up with things to read.

ROFL... No matter how fast I read, I don't think that is going to be a problem. I already have more books in the TBR pile than I'll probably ever finish in one lifetime. Yet-I can't stop buying more. I can think of far worse addictions!
