This week's teaser comes from book one in the "Ghost Dusters" mystery trilogy by Wendy Roberts, The Remains of the Dead, which I finished late Monday night. In this scene from chapter one, crime scene cleaner Sadie Novak is assessing a new job:
When she was confident she had a handle on what would be required, she turned to leave.
A scream burned her throat but was muffled by her respirator and mask. There was a man casually leaning against the door frame.
(pg 17)
ABOUT THE BOOK:
Book 1: Remains of the Dead
Book 2: Devil May Ride
Book 3: Dead and Kicking
Sadie Novak has got the kind of job that kills cocktail chatter dead: She owns Scene-2-Clean, a crime scene cleanup company. And if wiping up after murders weren’t spooky enough, she can also see and talk to the ghosts of victims.
When a grieving relative hires Sadie and her employee, ex-cop Zack Bowman, to clean up after the murder-suicide of Trudy and Grant Toth, Sadie figures she’s bound to encounter at least one chatty ghost. But instead she finds herself talking to Kent, a man she meets at the scene who is very much alive—so much so that Sadie agrees to go on a date with him.
When a ghost does appear—the oddly silent Trudy—the spirit seems determined to prove her husband’s innocence, and inspires Sadie to track down the real killer. But as Sadie scours the crime scene, she quickly realizes that she’s in way over her head, that Kent has a strange connection to the dead couple, and that someone wants her to give up the ghost . . . for good.

Alice: Don't worry, I won't tell. You'll have to read the book to find out. ;-D
Kaye: I know I'd be more than a little freaked if I thought I was in a house alone and turned to find a strange man watching me.
A frightening teaser!

Nice tease!! I really enjoyed this series, short lived as it was! Sad that it only made it to 3 books! Hope you enjoy the rest!
Thanks for visiting my blog!
Great teaser! I love the series name, too--Ghost Dusters! ha! Thanks for visiting my teaser today :)
Tribute Books Mama: Nah...there were a few scenes more frightening than that. ;-)
Kathy: Thanks, I finished last night (as mentioned in my post) and it was pretty good.
Jessica: It is an intriguing series and, from comments made in a forum at GoodReads when I mentioned what I was reading, it seems a great many people were sad there were no more books.
Jenny Q: It is a cute name and clever play on words, isn't it? I am just starting book two, and hope it will be as interesting as the first.
Scary! Why did she have the respirator and the mask on? Thanks for stopping by.
Hi Beth! The mask and respirator are to protect her from disease in cleaning up a crime scene with decomp. Yeah, gross, but the book was good and you have to admit it's an original premise.
