Thursday Thirteen 250: Local Music

It’s Memorial weekend, and here in Madison that can only mean one thing: it’s time for Brat Fest! If you don't know what Brat Fest is, check out this Thursday Thirteen post I wrote in 2008. In addition to marathons, tons of good food, rides and games, there are also four entertainment stages. I always get a kick out of the names of some of the local groups. Here are a few playing Brat Fest this year:

1. Voodoo Fix
2. Awesome Sauce
3. Killer Cars
4. Brair Rabbit
5. Tiger Clutch
6. Twang Dragons
7. Sexy Ester
8. Red Hot Horn Dawgs
9. Lords of Trident
10. Hunting Charo
11. Stop the Clock
12. A Torrid Affair
13. We Shall Be Bandits

I don’t know what kind of music any of these groups play, or how good they are (or aren’t, lol) as I have never even heard of them before, but you have to at least give credit for creativity.

Shelley: Photos would be a no brainer, but I don't know if friends and I will attend this year due to excessive heat. It's supposed to be in the low 90s this weekend, with high humidity and a chance of severe storms, and there is very little shade where the event is held, despite its name of Willow Island.

Event organizers have been warning all week that they may cancel the full Madison Marathon this weekend, so as not to endanger peoples' health, and the course for the half marathon will be open an hour longer to encourage people not to over-exert. I would rather stay in and maybe watch a movie with friends than risk sunburn or heat stroke.

We're supposed to be getting together for a cookout Monday at a friend's, but at least there we can escape into the garage or house if it gets too hot. Might not be able to hear the music from there, but we can see the evening fireworks. *g*

WIth you on creativity. It's what I first thought of when I looks at their names.

Heather said...

Hazel: I'm glad people appreciate the creativity. *g*

My favorite Madison band was Free Hot Lunch. I liked the lawn ornaments they put on stage.

Lords of Trident!

pahahahahahaha

Love. It. Sounds like a band about gum! :-D

Heather said...

Anita: I kind of like that name, too, LOL.

Jana: Leave it to you to think of chewing gum, when most people would think of Poseidon or Neptune. *Shakes head, rolls eyes*

Alice! OMG, I love the song Oreos by Free Hot Lunch. WMMM (triple M) used to play that all the time, not so much anymore.

Growing up, a couple of our favorite local groups were The And ("Marshmallow in a Keyhole") and Little Vito and the Torpedoes (that would be before Little Vito went to prison and the group shortened their name to just The Torpedoes).

A HS friend of my sisters used to be a pretty popular local group too, but do you think I can remember the name? It's there on the tip of my tongue, too. Argh!

Hot Ice was what my sister wanted to name her band. I never really had aspirations of playing in a band or recording. Love Voodoo Fix! I'd an an x and make it Fixx.

Colleen: I'm sure you could come up with some good ones! : D

Wacky Mommy: Hope you can get the family to go and have a great time!

Forgetfulone: I was in the string orchestra in HS, that was enough for me!

I know some of these bands and they are equally as awesome as they sound.

Tiger Clutch - Crazy, fun metal band complete with bad wigs and stretch pants.

Sexy Ester - Awesome rock band with a pop twist and a killer lead vocalist.

Lords of Trident - Another great metal band that incorporates costumes and props into their sets.

A Torrid Affair - Poetry set to music. Whimsical and melodic, the lead singer/songwriter's sweet voice evolves into a vibrant powerful force to be reckoned with.
