I have been reading Rick Riordan's "Percy Jackson" series this past week, a YA fantasy series based on Greek mythology. This is a fun series, one that easily appeals to adults as much as it does kids. This teaser comes from the middle of the first book, The Lightning Thief.
In a way, it's nice to know there are Greek gods out there, because you have somebody to blame when things go wrong. For instance, when you're walking away from a bus that's just been attacked by monster hags and blown up by lightning, and it's raining on top of everything else, most people might think that's just really bad luck; when you're a half-blood, you understand that some divine force really is trying to mess up your day.
(Chapter 11, first paragraph)
ABOUT THE BOOK:
Series: Percy Jackson and the Olympians -- Like the Harry Potter series, it is best to read these books in order. Trust me, you'll miss a lot if you don't.
1. The Lightning Thief
2. The Sea of Monsters
3. The Titan's Curse
4. The Battle of the Labyrinth
5. The Last Olympian
Percy Jackson is about to be kicked out of boarding school... again. And that's the least of his troubles. Lately, mythological monsters and the gods of Mount Olympus seem to be walking straight out of the pages of Percy's Greek mythology textbook and into his life. And worse, he's angered a few of them. Zeus' master lightning bolt has been stolen, and Percy is the prime suspect.
Now Percy and his friends have just ten days to find and return Zeus' stolen property and bring peace to a warring Mount Olympus. But to succeed on his quest, Percy will have to do more than catch the true thief: he must come to terms with the father who abandoned him; solve the riddle of the Oracle, which warns him of betrayal by a friend; and unravel a treachery more powerful than the gods themselves.

Now I know why some of my days turn to custard!
Good teaser, Heather.
Shelley: Yes, the gods can be fickle beings, and easily offended.
I keep hearing about this series, but I haven't read it. Your teaser makes me think I should! Thanks for the post.
My teaser is from Never Trust a Pretty Wolf.
Sandy: It is a fun series, and they are fast reads, too. I'm almost done with book four, and am intrigued to see how both it and the last book end.
I love the Percy Jackson series! I love all things Greek mythology.

I wonder how it is better to know that someone is out to get you. But I would absolutely love it if the Greek gods actually existed!!

Great teaser, this series sounds like something my granddaughter would enjoy. Thanks for visiting my TT earlier today.
Sally: What? You haven't fiished reading the series? Well, what are you waiting for? ;-)
Janet Ruth: I'm sure she would--the characters and adventures in this series really come to life.
Didn't they make a movie out of this? I want to see the movie.
Yes, they did, in 2010. I have not yet seen it myself. They are also in the process of filming book two, The Sea of Monsters. Am especially keen to see that as Nathen Fillion (TV's Richard Castle) has been cast as the god Hermes.
