Teaser Tuesday 139: Disney After Dark (Kingdom Keepers 1)

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading. Anyone can play along! Just do the following:

* Grab your current book or recent read.
* Share a few "teaser" sentences from somewhere in the book.
* BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (Make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away. You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
* Share the title and author so that other participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teaser!

I am almost done with Disney After Dark (Kingdom Keepers #1) by Ridley Pearson, a YA thriller and my first time reading by Mr. Pearson's work. This is a fast and fun read, and I look forward to diving into the next. Here is the first paragraph of chapter one:

He found himself standing next to the flagpole in Town Square, in the heart of the Magic Kingdom. In his pajamas. How he’d gotten here, he had no idea. His last memory was climbing into bed—it felt like only minutes earlier.

BOOK BLURB:

In this fantastical thriller, five young teens tapped as models for theme park “guides” find themselves pitted against Disney villains and witches that threaten both the future of Walt Disney World and the stability of the world outside its walls.

Using a cutting-edge technology called DHI—which stands for both Disney Host Interactive and Daylight Hologram Imaging—Finn Whitman, an Orlando teen, and four other kids are transformed into hologram projections that guide guests through the park.

The new technology turns out, however, to have unexpected effects that are both thrilling and scary. Soon Finn finds himself transported in his DHI form into the Magic Kingdom at night. Is it real? Is he dreaming?

Finn’s confusion only increases when he encounters Wayne, an elderly Imagineer who tells him that the park is in grave danger. Led by the scheming witch, Maleficent, a mysterious group of characters called the Overtakers is plotting to destroy Disney’s beloved realm, and maybe more.

This gripping high-tech tale will thrill every kid who has ever dreamed of sneaking into Walt Disney World after hours and wondered what happened at night, when the park is closed.

I'm not a kid, but I think I'd thoroughly enjoy this book. FYI: Another mystery about a Disney-like Florida theme park was written by S. V. Date and is entitled DEEP WATER. It's really funny.
My Teaser is from A VERY SOUTHERN AFFAIR.

Sandy: The great thing about YA is how much of it appeals to both youths and adults. *G*

Sonia: It has been a good read. I'm looking forward to finishing it tonight!

Kathy: Glad to give you an idea for your media center! I finished before bed last night, and brought the second along to start before tonight's Concert on the Square.

Brooke: It was an interesting read. I imagine the descriptive passages would be even more vivid for those who have actually been to Disney.

Susan: Yes, the one thing about library books is that they have to eventually be returned, lol.

Janet-Ruth: Happy to give you an idea for the grandkids. I'm sure they will love it! There are currently five books in the series, with a 6th due out in 2013.

Shelley: Thank you, it was a fun read. I'm diving into book two this evening.
