Teaser Tuesday 140: The Restorer

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading. Anyone can play along! Just do the following:

* Grab your current book or recent read.
* Share a few "teaser" sentences from somewhere in the book.
* BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (Make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away. You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
* Share the title and author so that other participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teaser!

I received the Graveyard Queen series by Amanda Stevens from a friend and the first book, The Restorer, did not disappoint. Here's a teaser from about 3/4 of the way in:

The shock knocked the flashlight out of my hand and I heard the glass shatter against the hard floor of the chamber.

"What was that?" Devlin asked in alarm.

Before I could respond, the bricks below me gave way and I went tumbling after the flashlight.

ABOUT THE BOOK:
This is book one in a trilogy that should be read in order. Want to win the first book? Click the GIVEAWAY button in the sidebar to enter the drawing.

Never acknowledge the dead.

Never stray far from hallowed ground.

Never get close to the haunted.

Never, ever tempt fate.

My name is Amelia Gray. I'm a cemetery restorer who sees ghosts. In order to protect myself from the parasitic nature of the dead, I've always held fast to these rules passed down from my father . . . until now.

Detective John Devlin needs my help to find a killer, but he is haunted by ghosts who shadow his every move. To warn him would be to invite them into my life. I've vowed to keep my distance, but the pull of his magnetism grows ever stronger even as the headstone symbols lead me closer to truth and to the gossamer veil that separates this world from the next.

This sounds really interesting. I think I've seen the name Amanda Stevens before, so I'll have to look her up. Here's my teaser:

Trib Book Mom: It was quite suspenseful!

Gautami: I DID enjoy it, thanks.

Ruby: Amanda Stevens has been around a long time, first writing for Harlequin Intrigue, and now penning many longer, single-title works.

Plummeting sounds painful. I like the premise of this one. Not the usual reason for keeping an ability secret.

Alice: I think plummeting would definitely be painful. Not something I'd like to experience myself.

Bookish: Thanks - I hope you enjoy the book as much as I did!

Jennifer: Trust me, it gets a whole lot creepier from there. ;-)

Janet Ruth: Thanks, I intionally looked for a creepy passage from this one. *g*
