For some unknown reason, three of the groups in which I participate at GoodReads have chosen Little Women by Louisa May Alcott as a group read some time during the past year. I wasn’t planning to reread it, but then I happened upon a copy in fairly decent condition on the $1 clearance rack at Half Price Books and figured why not?

"Dear me, I didn't know anyone was here!" stammered Jo, preparing to back out as speedily as she had bounced in.

Great post! Jo is my favorite LITTLE WOMEN character -- I always think of June Allyson in the old movie.

I've never actually read it. I've read parts of it, though. Not on purpose, just people keep bringing it up. You know something is a classic when that happens.
Sandy: To be honest, it's been so long that I don't remember a lot about either the book or any of the movie versions. I might have to lay hands on a movie version soon as comparison.

An excellent teaser from a wonderful book!! Alcott is probably most famous for Little Women, but my favorite Alcott books are Eight Cousins and its sequel Rose in Bloom which I highly recommend.

Ah, it's Jo's meeting with Laurie! I love Little Women. I read it several times as a child, and then a couple of years ago, read it again. I felt as though I had memorized much of the dialogue. It felt so cozy.

Wonderful teaser! I loved this book so much when I was a little girl. I totally identified with Jo, but always really wanted to be Amy! Might be time for a re-read.

Joy: I think I identified most with Jo as well. Not so much the wild and unruly tomboy aspect, but the voracious reader/writer that she was. I was always most content to be off on my own with a book!
