Thursday Thirteen 256: Recently Read

Between moving and watching the Olympics, there hasn't been much reading done so far for August. Good thing I was 20 books ahead of my goal of 100 at end of July! Here are the most recent thirteen books read--all but one of them from July.

BOOK NOTES:

* Disney After Dark and Disney at Dawn are the first two books in Ridley Pearson's YA "Kingdom Keepers" series. These were fun, entertaining and fast reads. Anyone who has actually visited the Magic Kingdom should enjoy these.

* I plucked Eden Burning out of the TBR pile because it was set in Hawaii, thinking I could apply it to the "Read the USA Mystery Challenge" I'm trying to finish this year. It ended up being a straight romance, which wasn't a big issue since I generally like Elizabeth Lowell's books, but the hero seriously annoyed me through the first half of the book. He did manage to redeem himself by the end.

* Marriage is Murder is book four in Nancy Pickard's "Jenny Cain" series. Hope to read more of these soon! Pickard was the June featured author for the Cozy Mysteries group.

* The Cat, The Wife and the Weapon is book four of the "Cats in Trouble" mystery series by Leann Sweeney.

* Eggs in Purgatory is book one of a series, and was read for the "Read the USA Mystery Challenge" -- Minnesota.

* And Then There Were None by Agatha Christie was a reread, and was one of the July group reads for TNBBC. It's been so long since I'd read it that there was a lot I did not remember. I saw the movie version a few weeks prior to it being chosen as a group read, and found it interesting that they changed the ending for the movie.

* An Uninvited Ghost and Old Haunts were books two and three in the "Haunted Guest House series by EJ Copperman.

* Once Burned is the first book in the new "Night Prince" series by Jeaniene Frost, featuring characters from her popular "Night Huntress" series. I hated the way this one ended, leaving us hanging until book two comes out. Which, of course, isn't until next March. Whimper...

* A Rogue My Own and Let Love Find You are books are books three and four in the "Reid Family" series by historical romance author Johanna Lindsey.

* Plum Lovin' by Janet Evanovich was randomly plucked from Mount TBR and was a fast read.

What are you reading these days? Anything you'd like to recommend?

Some of these have just jumped over to my to-read list. With a holiday coming I have room :)

I'm reading a contemporary by Annie West at the moment.

Shelley: Okay, I'm intrigued as to which ones made the cut. Probably the Jeaniene Frost, for sure, but what else? Inquiring minds want to know! :D

Evanovich is almost always a fast read.

Nice mix this time. Not so heavy on the mystery.

Anita: I've only read two books by Evanovich, but they were both fast reads.

Alice: Thanks. I have been neglecting the mystery pile a bit lately. I intend to remedy that as soon as I finish Little Women. *VBG*

You must be a speed reader! Right now I am browsing Half Empty by David Rakoff.

And Then There Were None is one of my all-time favorite mysteries! I'm not crazy about Evanovich. She's so popular that I suspect the problem is me, not her. But I just discovered the Spellman mystery series by Lisa Lutz. She's similar to Evanovich but she gets more smiles from me.

Colleen: Oh, no -- if I were a speed reader I'd be knocking off a book a day. The excessively hot weather helps contribute to the amount of reading done this year. It's been too hot to much else but stay indoors and read!

Janice: I hope you found one or two that at least interested you. You would probably like Eden Burning with it's Hawaiian setting.

Rekaya: I'm glad a couple of these seem to interest you! :)

Paige: Hehe...what's not to love about a Lindsey? *g*

Gal Herself: I found a copy of the first Spellman book on the HPB clearance rack not too long ago, but have not yet got round to it. A lot of people seem to like them.
