My grandparents used to have a crabapple tree in their front yard. I tried eating one once (when I was a kid) and...that didn't quite work out so well for me. Blech!
I'm not too fond of crab apples. We had three trees behind our house when I was a kid, which meant an abundance of crab apples on the ground which, apparently, I was supposed to deal with. Mostly I just ran the lawn mower over the top and pleaded ignorance.
Alice: That can be a problem with some species of crabapple. My friend Kim curses her tree every time she has to rake up apples under it before she can mow.

They sure are pretty though! :D
Yeah, much like wild grapes they're okay for cooking, but not so much raw eating.
I'm going to miss the flowering crabapple tree in spring that was outside my old apartment.
Very pretty and I love the coloring.

Yvnonne: Thank you!

What I disliked the most were the prickly branches.
Ah. Can't say I've ever given much thought to the branches--but then, I've never had to prune or mow under them. *g*
