Thursday Thirteen 266: Post-Thanksgiving

I did not participate in last week's Thursday Thirteen as it was Thanksgiving here in the US, and I knew I would not have time or access. I spent the weekend with friends, and to say there was a lot of food would be an understatement. Here's what was on the table:

1. Turkey, of course
2. Mashed potatoes
3. Gravy
4. Sausage stuffing
5. Candied sweet potatoes (made by me)
6. Roasted acorn squash (squash from work garden, but cooked by another friend)
7. Green bean casserole -- why do some people insist on ruining perfectly good green beans?
8. Corn -- for those of us who dislike ruined green beans
9. Lefse
10. Dinner rolls
11. Pumpkin trifle (instead of pie this year)
12. Banana cream pie (made by me)
13. Birthday cake -- gotta love those holiday birthdays

Friends and I made up "frozen dinners" with some of the leftovers (plates ready to go from freezer to microwave), and froze bowls of extra gravy and turkey -- and we were still eating leftovers through Sunday. It's hard to believe that was a week ago already. Where did this week go??

I do enjoy a lovely helping of turkey, potatoes and gravy - with a bit of stuffing on the side as well.

I miss it sometimes, being so far from home makes holidays difficult. :-/

Happy TT to you!

Glad you had such an excellent Turkey Day!:)

I'm so jealous ya'll had so many leftovers. The only leftovers I had were for the sweet potato casserole I made for the church lunch. I didn't have anything left from my offerings on Thanksgiving and nobody else in the family offered to share theirs with me.:(

Sounds delicious! We don't ruin our beans down here. I'm not even sure what a bean casserole is.

Jennifer: The pumpkin trifle was pretty good. I'll have to get the recipe so I can post it. Unfortunately, we forget to snap a pic of it before we dug in.

Kimberly: Missing the big holidays -- and all the food that goes with them -- is always difficult when living abroad. (((hugs)))

Jana: Bad family for being so stingy with the leftovers. I was surprised K's aunt and grandmother didn't want any of the leftover turkey, but all they took was Grandma's birthday cake.

S didn't want anything, either. She was supposed to join us for leftovers and a movie the one night, but never showed. Ah, well...her loss. *g*

Harriet: Doesn't it seem ages ago? And now it's less than a month to Christmas. Eeek!

Shelley: I blame it on Campbell's, who for some ungodly reason thought it would be a great idea to add fried onions and cream of mushroom soup to green beans. I would rather have the plain old green beans without all those disgusting extra calories.

What a thoroughly Midwestern menu. My family has root in the deep south. We go with cornbread.

had to google Lefse :-) interesting! I didn't get enough turkey, stuffing, mashed taters and cranberry sauce on Thanksgiving, so sad!

Alice: That's us, thoroughly midwestern with Norwegian and German roots. *G*

Fridayfillins: It's a Norwegian thing, though I personally don't care for it all that much. I'd rather have krumkake. :D

I could tell by the sausage. Among other things.

I was just grateful it wasn't cranberry stuffing. Sausage or cornbread stuffing I can deal with. Cranberries? No. I don't like raisins in my stuffing, either. Apparently K's other grandmother used to make her stuffing that way. I like raisins, they just don't belong in stuffing, lol.

We had plain ol' green beans.

Yay! Let's hear it for plain ol' green beans! :)
