Teaser Tuesday 155: A Wallflower Christmas

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading. Anyone can play along! Just do the following:

* Grab your current book or recent read.
* Share a few "teaser" sentences from somewhere in the book.
* BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (Make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away. You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
* Share the title and author so that other participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teaser!

I've just finished A Wallflower Christmas by Lisa Kleypas, a wonderful historical romance. It's been ages since I've read anything by Miss Kleypas, and I'm glad I picked this one up at the used book sale last month. Here are a few little teasers for you.

"This is how we court girls in America. We grab them and kiss them. And if they don’t like it, we do it again, harder and longer, until they surrender. It saves us hours of witty repartee."

(pg 34)

~*~*~*~*~*~

A gleam of humor flicked in those obsidian eyes. "I should warn you, Hannah: when we meet at Stony Cross Park, take care to avoid the mistletoe. For both our sakes."
(pg 36)

~*~*~*~*~*~

She heard her name spoken in a quizzical tone, and opened her eyes to view Rafe Bowman standing below her. There was such an odd expression on his face, a mixture of amusement and bafflement and something that looked like concern.
(pg 108)

ABOUT THE BOOK:
This is the fifth in a series, and I will certainly be seeking out the previous books I've missed.

Rafe Bowman has just arrived from America for his arranged meeting with Natalie, the very proper and beautiful daughter of Lady and Lord Blandford. His chiseled good looks and imposing physique are sure to impress the lady-in-waiting, and if it weren’t for his shocking American ways and wild reputation, her hand would already be guaranteed. Before the courtship can begin, Rafe realizes he must learn the rules of London society. But when four former Wallflowers try their hand at matchmaking, no one knows what will happen. . .

Winning a bride turns out to be more complicated than Rafe Bowman anticipated, especially for a man accustomed to getting anything he wants. However, Christmas works in the most unexpected ways, changing a cynic to a romantic. . .and inspiring passion in the most timid of hearts.

This sounds like a fun historical romance that I'd love. I'll look for the series.
My Teaser is from GOODBYE EMILY.

Sandy: It was a fun read, with a few laugh-out-loud moments. I was determined to finish the last couple chapters yesterday, even with a migraine coming on. I'd say the suffering was worth it. *wry grin*

I had to make myself stop reading Lisa Kleypas. I read half a dozen of hers, then noticed that I always felt like I should be enjoying it more than I was. She's and excellent writer, but just isn't compatible with me.

I haven't read this one but I love Lisa Kleypas! She's one of my favorite romance authors :)

Alice: *Nodding* I can understand that. There are a few authors I find "incompatible" as well.

Vonnie: I hope you'll get the chance to read this one soon--especially if you have read the previous books in the series.

Hi Beth! It was indeed a fun read. Especially the scene my third teaser is from. ;-D

Shelley: I don't know why I haven't read more of this author, considering I have liked the few books I've read by her.

Laurel-Rain: Christmas at Friday Harbor is next on my TBR list, as soon as I finish a short holiday story by Jill Shalvis. *g*

Hi Tiffany! If you like historical romance with a touch of humor, do give Kleypas a try. This particular book is perfect for this time of year, even if read out of series.

Ambrosia: I admit, I am addicted to Christmas-themed books. I try to get through as many in that stack as I can each year and - of course - always seem to add a few each year. It's no wonder that pile never seems to get any smaller, LOL.

I'm not usually into historical romances but this sounds good. I've been wanting to read Kleypas but haven't gotten around to it yet.
