Teaser Tuesday 166: Frost Burned

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading. Anyone can play along! Just do the following:

* Grab your current book or recent read.
* Share a few "teaser" sentences from somewhere in the book.
* BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (Make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away. You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
* Share the title and author so that other participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teaser!

Finished Frost Burned by Patricia Briggs over two very late nights this weekend. Anyone familiar with the series knows that where Mercy goes, trouble is soon to follow. This book was no exception. Here's a teaser from chapter one.

I might have been a mere coyote shapeshifter instead of a muscle-bound werewolf, but I had years of full-contact karate under my brown belt. The irate owner of the SUV was a lot bigger than me, but, from the smell and lack of coordination in his movements, he was also drunk. That negated most of the advantage his size gave him.

I let his fist slip by me, took a step that angled my hips into his, grabbed the elbow and hand of his attacking arm, and slammed him face-first into the pavement using, mostly, his own momentum to do it.

ABOUT THE BOOK:
Mercy Thompson #7

Mercy Thompson returns in the seventh novel in the #1 New York Times bestselling series.

Mercy Thompson’s life has undergone a seismic change. Becoming the mate of Adam Hauptman—the charismatic Alpha of the local werewolf pack—has made her a stepmother to his daughter Jesse, a relationship that brings moments of blissful normalcy to Mercy’s life. But on the edges of humanity, what passes for a minor mishap on an ordinary day can turn into so much more...

After an accident in bumper-to-bumper traffic, Mercy and Jesse can’t reach Adam—or anyone else in the pack for that matter. They’ve all been abducted.

Through their mating bond, all Mercy knows is that Adam is angry and in pain. With the werewolves fighting a political battle to gain acceptance from the public, Mercy fears Adam’s disappearance may be related—and that he and the pack are in serious danger. Outclassed and on her own, Mercy may be forced to seek assistance from any ally she can get, no matter how unlikely.

I don't normally enjoy books about werewolves, but this one does sound intriguing.

Here's MY TUESDAY MEMES POST

Beth S: Indeed she is!

Shelley: I enjoy this series, too, but I should have known better than to start it on a night when I had to get up for work the next morning, lol. I had to force myself to put it down, or I'd have been up all night. *g*

Hi, Majanka: All the covers of this series are done in the style of this one, and they suit both the books and the heroine.

Laurel-Rain: This series may not be classic literature, but the books are definitely fun, fast reads. In addition to werewolves there are witches, vampires, fae and shifters--a little bit of everything, lol.

Love it! Mercy is definitely a strong heroine--my favorite kind of character.
My Teaser is from THE MONDAY NIGHT NEEDLEWORK & MURDER GUILD.

I love me some Mercy Thompson, I've got to get to this one soon!

Sandy: Definitely strong--in so many different ways.

Kelley: Use it as incentive to finish those other two books you mentioned. Sometimes you need to set yourself a reward for getting through a longer or more difficult book. *g*

This one is on my TBR mountain. I think I'll be getting to it soon. I have a small gap in my review schedule to fit in one of my own books.

Heather said...

I hope you get to it soon, Kathy. Sometimes you need a break between review books to read something you really want to read, rather than something you feel you have to read. Enjoy!

I haven't read this series, but I've heard alot about it. Great teaser!

Heather said...

Hi Melissa! Yes, Mercy is definitely tough. Of course, it doesn't hurt that she's a coyote shifter married to a werewolf. *g*

Yvonne: What? You haven't read this series? I would think this one right up your alley! :)
