42 / Jackie Robinson Day

Friends and I went to see the new movie 42 this weekend, based on the real-life story of American baseball legend, Jackie Robinson. LOVED IT! I highly recommend this film, whether you are a fan of baseball or not. The movie contains a good deal of humor, as well as an excellent cast, including Harrison Ford and Chadwick Boseman. There were a few lines of dialogue applauded by the audience during the movie, as well as applause at the end. I believe it worthy of a few Oscar nods come next February.

In 1947, Jack Robinson (Jan 31, 1919 - Oct 24, 1972) broke baseball's color barrier by signing with the Brooklyn Dodgers. The 66th commemoration of that event will be celebrated today, April 15, by players and on-field personnel sporting the number 42, youth-focused events, and pre-game ceremonies (April 16 for teams that have the 15th off).

Looks good. I may not be a sports type person, but I always love a good story.
