Teaser Tuesday 181: Arabella

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading. Anyone can play along! Just do the following:

* Grab your current book or recent read.
* Share a few "teaser" sentences from somewhere in the book.
* BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (Make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away. You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
* Share the title and author so that other participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teaser!

I am just starting Arabella by Georgette Heyer for the Happily Ever After Cafe at Goodreads. Miss Heyer wrote more than fifty novels, including Regency romances, mysteries and historical fiction. Arabella is one of her most well-known novels. I am only a couple chapters in, so here's a short teaser from early in the book.

A dampened silence greeted her words. Sophia was the first to recover herself. "Something," she announced resolutely, "will be contrived."
(Page 9)

FROM THE BACK COVER:

Impetuosity was Arabella’s only fault . . .

An enchanting debutante and the eldest daughter of an impoverished country parson, Arabella Tallant embarks on her first London season. Armed with beauty, virtue, and a benevolent godmother, Arabella is sure to be a success, as long as her notoriously impetuous temper does not interfere.

His arrogance proves too much for her to bear . . .

But when Robert Neaumaris, the most eligible Nonpareil of the day, accuses her of being yet another pretty female after his wealth, Arabella allows herself to be provoked—into a decision that might have unexpected consequences.

I haven't read any Georgette Heyer novels, but I like the synopsis! And your teaser's great, it made me smile. I think A's a heroine I could like, fiery and smart!

Hi Annie! This is my first heyer novel, and though I'm only a few chapters in, I am enjoying it so far.

I love Georgette Heyer, and haven't read one of hers in ages. I'll have to make more of an effort.

Alice: I regret that I have not read her before, but have two more romances and two of her mysteries languishing in Mount TBR. Must make more of an effort to get to them!

Hi Kathy. I'm only four chapters in and am enjoying myself so far. Her style seems quite similar to Jane Austen, and I do love most of her books.

Thanks, Laurel-Rain -- I can't beleive it has taken me so long to read her books. Will definitely be revisiting this author again soon!

I've never read this author. I'm more of a contemporary than historical reader, but this does sound really good.

Thanks for visiting my blog!

Yvonne: I'll read both, though these days I tend more towards contemporary romance than historical. There were a few years, though, when I read almost nothing but historical.
