Teaser Tuesday 186: City of Bones

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading. Anyone can play along! Just do the following:

* Grab your current book or recent read.
* Share a few "teaser" sentences from somewhere in the book.
* BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (Make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away. You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
* Share the title and author so that other participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teaser!

I spent the majority of the past weekend reading, finishing both City of Bones and City of Ashes by Cassandra Clare, the first two books in her "Mortal Instruments" series. I enjoyed them both and look forward to getting my hands on book three, and seeing the movie out this week. Here's a teaser or two from City of Bones.

She stepped out from behind the pillar. "Stop!" she cried. "You can't do this."
(Chapter 1)

~*~*~*~*~

The edge of the roof was coming up fast, so fast, and Clary wanted to shut her eyes but something held them wide open as the motorcycle hurtled over the parapet and plummeted like a rock toward the ground, ten stories down.
(Chapter 15)

ABOUT THE BOOK:
City of Bones (The Mortal Instruments #1)

When fifteen-year-old Clary Fray heads out to the Pandemonium Club in New York City, she hardly expects to witness a murder—much less a murder committed by three teenagers covered with strange tattoos and brandishing bizarre weapons. Then the body disappears into thin air. It's hard to call the police when the murderers are invisible to everyone else and when there is nothing—not even a smear of blood—to show that a boy has died. Or was he a boy?

This is Clary's first meeting with the Shadowhunters, warriors dedicated to ridding the earth of demons. It's also her first encounter with Jace, a Shadowhunter who looks a little like an angel and acts a lot like a jerk. Within twenty-four hours Clary is pulled into Jace's world with a vengeance, when her mother disappears and Clary herself is attacked by a demon. But why would demons be interested in ordinary mundanes like Clary and her mother? And how did Clary suddenly get the Sight? The Shadowhunters would like to know. . . .

Exotic and gritty, exhilarating and utterly gripping, Cassandra Clare's ferociously entertaining fantasy takes readers on a wild ride that they will never want to end.

Linsey: You do realize the movie opens tomorrow? LOL Seriously, that is what (finally) prompted me to read these two. I'd had the books a couple weeks, but there were other books I wanted/needed to read first.

Thanks, Caro, I did enjoy it, though I really didn't need to get hooked on another series! :-\

Laurel-Rain: I first saw these books mentioned in Teaser Tuesday posts, but it took me quite a while to hunt them out. The first movie coming out is what finally spurred me on, and now I can't wait to read the rest.

Alice: Some people are so easy. *VBG* Seriously, I think you and The Girl both might like these. ☺

Jenny: Wow, someone who has already seen the movie! I'll have to check out your review. I'm not sure if friends and I will go this weekend, but we definitely want to se the movie.

Two great teasers. The second one grabbed me and made me catch my breath. Should make a good movie.

Hi Sandy! That scene was action-packed from start to finish -- and it didn't end with them hurtling off the roof. Jenny wrote a really great review and left a link above if interested.

Anita: Definitely some exciting moments in this book. It will be interesting to see how it translates to film. One of about a half a dozen books-to-movies I'm interested in seeing over the next few months.

Kelley: That makes two of us. I don't care for motorcycles when they're on the ground, never mind hurtling through the air, LOL.

Heather said...

Thanks, Yvonne! I hope we will enjoy the movie as much as we have the book.

Kirsty-Marie: Are we a wee bit excited about the movie coming out? *G*
