Thursday Thirteen 299: Upcoming Books to Film

Since the dawn of cinema, directors, producers and screenwriters have been adapting books for stage and screen. Some have faithfully captured the essence of a book, while others have completely misssed, and many have been mediocre at best. Some books have been adapted to screen more than once, as has one of the titles below. Here are thirteen books that will soon be hitting the big screen. 12. The Maze Runner by James Dashner

Of the books listed, I have read five — 2, 5, 8, 9, and 10 — and there are a few others I would like to read. Number 4, Horns, was the only one that did not interest me at all, book or movie (I don't do horror, no matter who might be in it).

Which books have you read? Are there any movies on this list you would especially like to see?

I read #5 and I would like to see #10. I saw the first one already. Good list. Thank you for sharing.

I have only read number 8 but I thought it was super. I don't watch many films and I tend to avoid any that I've read the book of - I like to see the characters as my own imagination developed them rather than as some Director has done.

Rekaya: I'm looking forward to #10 as well. Would love to see the first one again first, just to refresh my memory as to where it left off.

Scriptor Senex: I loved The Book Thief (#8), one of the best books ever. I was wary about a movie based on it, but judging from the trailer, I think they've done an excellent job bringing it to life. Now to see which of my friends wants to see it as well...

Always a sucker for Shakespeare, I'll probably check it out, hoping not to be (as I so often am) disappointed.

I've heard of more of these than your other books list because I saw quite a few of them as movies. I'm looking forward to seeing The Monuments Men.

Sandy: How fun, I hope your student enjoyed reading it!

Shelley: Divergent is one I'm going to have to read before the movie comes out. I have a feeling one of the K's is going to want to see it. *G*

Ron: I have avoided the last couple film versions of R&J simply based on how much I was turned off by the trailers. This one, however, looks to be almost as good as Zeffirelli's (1968).

Colleen: I hope you mean you've seen quite a few of the movie trailers, because only two of these are currently in theaters, though one has been done at least five times previously. The Monuments Men looks really good.

Paige: LOL...I should have known you'd pick up on The Hobbit. *VBG*

I haven't read any of these. The last book to movie that I did both was Hunger Games. I spent the entire movie reliving the book.

Thanks, Natasha! The tiger was much more cooperative than our male lion, who was hiding behind foliage instead of sunning himself in the open (though we did hear him roar once or twice).

I started reading Ender's Game but couldn't get into it. I haven't read the others on the list. Well, I read Romeo and Juliet in high school!

Good list, I might check out some of the books before I see the movies!

Great! I'll be among the first in the cinema for 8, 10 and 5. Yesterday I rang my fave bookshop for The Book Thief after watching the trailer. Love your list. Thanks Heather.

Rachel: I'm sorry to hear you didn't like Ender's Game. I've never read it, but have considered doing so before the movie is out, even though it's a genre I don't usually read.

Hazel: I hope you enjoy The Book Thief as much as I did. It's one of my favorite books.
