Teaser Tuesday 194: One Last Good-Bye

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading. Anyone can play along! Just do the following:

* Grab your current book or recent read.
* Share a few "teaser" sentences from somewhere in the book.
* BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (Make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away. You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
* Share the title and author so that other participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teaser!

Started a cozy mystery last night, One Last Good-Bye by Joyce and Jim Lavene. They are the November author of the month for the Cozy Mysteries group at Goodreads. This is book two in their Sharyn Howard series.

"It’s bad, Sheriff," the first diver to reach her proclaimed. He wiped his wet face with an equally wet hand."
(Chapter 2)

~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~

Sharyn took a deep breath and resisted the impulse to wipe her hand on her pants. He had that effect on her. She knew he was trying to intimidate her and it irritated her.
(Chapter 7)

ABOUT THE BOOK:

Half a century ago, in Sheriff Sharyn Howard's small North Carolina town, a Navy plane piloted by a local war hero plunged mysteriously into a Diamond Mountain lake. The plane and the two servicemen inside were never recovered. Now a Pulitzer Prize-winning writer has come to investigate the decades-old crash—and disappears. As the sheriff supervises the dredging of the lake, she gets more than she bargained for. They find the missing author, his submerged pickup, the missing plane—and clear evidence that all three men were murdered.

Are the two tragedies connected? Were there secrets about the downed plane that cost another man his life? The sheriff hasn't ruled out a linking motive in the murders, but as she investigates crimes both past and present, she tangles with a clever adversary determined to stop the investigation dead in its tracks.

Interesting combination of hand wiping.

Cleopatra: Actually, they're not getting all hot and bothered. There's actually a murder investigation taking place.

Lizzy: Rainy fall days are perfect for a good mystery or two, aren't they?

Alice: Omigosh! You'd think I planned that, but swear I did not even notice when I chose two random scenes from the book. Honest! LOL

Laurel-Rain: It is really good, and a pretty fast read so far.

Greg: The secret behind the plane and it's pilot/navigator is proving to be as intriguing as the cover blurb makes it sound. I really want to know what happened to that ill-fated flight!
