Wow, my 200th Teaser Tuesday post! This week I am reading a rom-suspense by Suzanne Brockmann, The Unsung Hero. There are actually three interwoven storyslines in the book, and I have enjoyed seeing how the different strands tie together. While I am enjoying Tom and Kelly's story (the primary thread), the flashbacks to WWII (secondary thread) have especially intrigued me. Here's the opening to Tom and Kelly's story:
Tom was at least twenty yards from the shelter of the rocks when he heard the Seahawk blow behind him, felt the force of the explosion send him hurtling through the air. The ground came up to meet him far too quickly.
(Prologue)
And Here's a snippet from Joe and Cybele's story:
"You’re not alone," he told her. "I’m here." He reached for her, but she pulled away. She didn’t want him. God, that hurt.
"I wish I could love you," she said wistfully.
When Joe looked at Cybele, he, too, felt hope with his despair, despite his hurt, despite his anger. "Maybe someday you will."
(Chapter Thirteen)
ABOUT THE BOOK:
Series: Troubleshooters #1
With her dynamic novels in the Tall, Dark and Dangerous series, bestselling author Suzanne Brockmann has proven herself a master storyteller. Her rare gift for blending intense adventure with sensuous romance has captivated readers, who especially relish her vivid portrayals of the dashing men of the U.S. Navy SEALS. Now, in "The Unsung Hero," Brockmann has created her most unforgettable book yet--a poignant story of a love that will reveal hidden truths and bring two solitary people together . . . against all odds.
After a near-fatal head injury, navy SEAL lieutenant Tom Paoletti catches a terrifying glimpse of an international terrorist in his New England hometown. When he calls for help, the navy dismisses the danger as injury-induced imaginings. In a desperate, last-ditch effort to prevent disaster, Tom creates his own makeshift counterterrorist team, assembling his most loyal officers, two elderly war veterans, a couple of misfit teenagers, and Dr. Kelly Ashton-the sweet "girl next door" who has grown into a remarkable woman. The town's infamous bad boy, Tom has always longed for Kelly. Now he has one final chance for happiness, one last chance to win her heart, and one desperate chance to save the day . . . .
