Teaser Tuesday 202: Dance Upon the Air

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading. Anyone can play along! Just do the following:

* Grab your current book or recent read.
* Share a few "teaser" sentences from somewhere in the book.
* BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (Make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away. You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
* Share the title and author so that other participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teaser!

This week's teaser comes from a book I just finished: Dance Upon the Air by Nora Roberts, the first in her Three Sisters Island trilogy.

"Don't!" She stumbled back, dropping the bag, flinging her arms up as if to guard her face from a blow. The moment she did, shame smothered panic.

(Chapter Six)

ABOUT THE BOOK:

When Nell Channing arrives on charming Three Sisters Island, she believes that she's finally found refuge from her abusive husband—and from the terrifying life she fled so desperately eight months ago...

But even in this quiet, peaceful place, Nell never feels entirely at ease. Careful to conceal her true identity, she takes a job as a cook at the local bookstore cafĂ©—and begins to explore her feelings for the island sheriff, Zack Todd. But there is a part of herself she can never reveal to him, for she much continue to guard her secrets if she wants to keep the past at bay. One careless word, one misplaced confidence, and the new life she's so carefully created could shatter completely.

Just as Nell starts to wonder if she'll ever be able to break free of her fear, she realizes that the island suffers under a terrible curse—one that can only be broken by the descendants of the Three Sisters, the witches who settled the island back in 1692. And now, with the help of two other strong, gifted women—and the nightmares of the past haunting her every step—she must find the power to save her home, her love... and herself...

What a great teaser. I like the sound of the curse that needs the descendants of the three witches.

Thanks, Cleopatra. I can't wait to get to the next book in the series and learn more.

I really like all of Nora Roberts' books. She has a great way with emotion. My teasers this week come from The Girl Is Murder by Kathryn Miller Haines and To Dance With the Devil. Happy reading!

I need to read this trilogy. Love the sound of this one! And thanks for visiting my blog.

I love this book! I read the trilogy when I was 14, and never got over them. To this day, this is the book that I keep bringing with me wherever I go, it's practically falling apart from being read over and over again, but it always calms me down and lifts my spirits when I'm feeling down.

I hope you'll enjoy it as much as I have! My teaser this week is from The Raven Girl.

I keep meaning to give Nora Roberts a try. She's an immensely popular author with the women who take my train. I wonder how many employees are late for work because they're so into Nora Roberts that they miss their stops?

Kathy M: I've read a lot of her books, and while there are some I've loved more than others, I can't think of one I've really disliked.

Laurel-Rain: I cna't beleive how long this series has been sitting in Mount TBR. Glad I finally got to them!

Heather said...

Dravite: Wow, you've apparently read this one quite a bit. Maybe it's time to treat yourself to a new copy! :D

Gal: I admit, I almost missed the stop I wanted while running errands on Saturday while reading this, and made sure to stop at a chapter break a good mile from my destination on the way home.

Not that I need to worry about that too much on the return trip, as I've had the same driver on that route more than two years now, and he knows which stop I need. Before I moved last fall, he would let me off at the stop sign rather than the actual bus stop, as it was closer to where I lived. It was especially appreciate in winter, when the sidewalk wasn't always cleared as it should be. It threw him off the first time I asked to go one stop further for the new place, lol. :)

I used to read everything by Nora Roberts but I haven't in awhile. I should go back to her books, though.

Sounds like a good one.

Nora sure likes to do the trilogies and the siblings.

Yvonne: I stopped trying to keep up with all of her booksa long time ago, especially backlists books published before I discovered her. I try to keep up with newer releases, but have missed a few of those, too, and have to read any of her JD Robb books.

Alice: It was a good one--one that had me staying up late to finish. And yes, she seems to love writing trilogies and stories about siblings and/or family.

Nise' said...

This is one of my favorite NR's trilogies

Heather said...

Nise': I can easily understand why. I look forward to reading the last two books. :)

Now you've got me curious as to what happened. Nice teaser. Here’s mine for the week: http://www.tfwalsh.com/reviews/teaser-tuesday-soul-cutter

Tania: Glad to have piqued your curiosity. Thanks for visiting! ☺

Nice teaser! Sadly, I've never read a Roberts book. Thanks for sharing!

Heather said...

Thanks, Andrea! Between writing as Nora Roberts and JD Robb, there are plenty of titles from which the uninitiated can choose. Some are obviously more romantic, while others are heavier on the suspense.

Nice teaser. I'm a Nora Roberts fan. I'm actually listening to one of hers on audio at present called Remember When.

Kelley: Thanks, it was a good book.
